No cheap seats for Cain, Gingrich 'Lincoln-Douglas-style' debate ($200 for general admission)

No television station has signed on to broadcast the “Lincoln-Douglas” debate between GOP presidential rivals Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich, and those hoping to attend the Nov. 5 debate will pay a steep price to see the drama unfold in-person.

General admission for the debate costs $200 – although the price includes a slice of “good ole apple pie,” according to the Texas Tea Party Patriots PAC, which is sponsoring the event.

Then there’s the “Patron Ticket,” which costs $500. Patron-level purchasers will get “prime seating” and admission to a “Nite Cap party after the debate,” as well as a chance to mingle with the candidates over drinks and hors d’oerves afterward.

Top-level donors will pay $1,000 for “the best seating in the house,” a special room at the Woodlands Resort in Houston for the Nite Cap party, and a “professional picture” taken with the candidates.

Students can get in for $150, but those tickets are sold out.

Gingrich has been a long-time proponent of the Lincoln-Douglas debate style, because it gives candidates more time to have a detailed policy discussion. Gingrich has repeatedly said that if he were the Republican nominee, he would challenge President Obama to seven three-hour Lincoln-Douglas style debates.

The debates typically have a time-keeper, not a moderator, although this TTPP debate will be moderated by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), a Tea Party favorite.

I think this debate will be a huge win-win for both Cain and Gingrich and more debates like it will follow. Certainly it has potential to elevate Cain in the eyes of many.

Or the reverse could happen.
Yes, of course it could. But the reality of this arrangement couldn't be clearer - Cain and Gingrich have everything to gain by making sure they both come out as statesmen. There won't be any "gotcha" journalists moderating, and neither of these two can look good by making the other look bad. This will be about - quaint concept I know, but there it is - issues. Even more quaint, the issues will be those that separate the Republicans from the Democrats, as much or more than about the issues which may separate Cain from Gingrich.
The real winner, among Republicans, is likely to be the format itself. IMHO this is the programming format by which the Internet can best enable the Republican candidates to reach Republican primary voters outside the control of "objective" journalists. And without the dilution of candidates in which a particular viewer is not interested.

My comparison to Churchill was related, primarily, to his having been villified or ignored during his term in Parliament when he warned about Hitler and the Gathering Storm. Not the totality of his extraordinary, turbulent life.

After his success in WWII even the fickle Brits threw him out - then pulled him back in again.

I believe you are right. These two are raising the bar...way up in my opinion. Sarah said this will be a campaign like no other, these two are are putting the meat into that. They are re-taking the election process, away from the elites..and putting it back into the hands of the people. How positively refreshing.

Liberal talking heads exploding because they will continue to lose control of the messaging industry.

my hubby and I are celebrating our golden wedding anniversary

Well, congratulations to both of you !

I would point out to you that of the two events (L-D style debate and golden wedding anniversary), you might not have another chance at a debate like this!

;-)

Let’s put it this way: you’ve got a better chance of seeing your second golden wedding anniversary than I do of seeing another honest debate. The media won’t stand for it.

I wish. It's 2100 miles from me, though.

Gingrich’s worst trait is that he is a career politician., attached to the Establishment.

He hasn't been in Congress for 12 years but when he was there he was very effective. He ended the Democrats 40 year hold on the House and was instrumental in balancing the budget under Clinton. Of course, Clinton took credit for it and still does til this day.

Unless something changes, all we will know is what the press in attendance tell us. I expect it to be a friendly discussion since there will be no journalist playing "Let's you and him fight." Each will benefit.

I do not back away from that sentencde. It is true. Newt made a goo Speker, and he would make a good adviser in Herman Cain’s cabinet. Newt has value.

I'd pay it (if I were close).

It's not that far from Tokyo to Texas is it? Maybe you need a good rib-eye or something....some new boots.

Update -

I just spoke to a very nice lady from the Texas Patriots group sponsoring the event regarding Livestream or other viewing. She said TV stations are interested in broadcasting but no plans to do so...however, they are working with distributors on how to get this out to viewers, whether on a website or CD..hasn’t been decided.

http://texaspatriotspac.com/

Check the website periodically as they will post any info there as soon as decisions are made. She said there was HEAVY interest from the public on seeing this event.
