Amid extraordinary security, the Constitution was placed on trial this afternoon alongside an American-born Muslim of privilege as lawyers for Tarek Mehanna argued the religious and political beliefs of the accused terrorist while perhaps treason to some are what make America so great, so strong, so free.
Were not afraid of what other people say. At least, were not supposed to be, defense attorney J.W. Carney Jr. said of Mehanna, 29, a Sudbury pharmacist federal prosecutors today told jurors was maturing into an increasingly prolific mouthpiece for al-Qaeda and its late leader Osama bin Laden.
Mehanna, assistant U.S. Attorney Aloke Chakravarty said in his opening statement, not only answered bin Ladens call to arms in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on America and the war on Iraq, but from the keyboard of his cushy bedroom in Sudbury, he was keeping that call alive and he kept it flourishing.
Mehanna, he said, even had a pet name for jihad: Peanut butter and jelly.
Yes, he expressed admiration for Osama bin Laden. He didnt hide his beliefs; he wore them on his sleeve, Carney told a panel of nine women and seven men seated for the anticipated two-month trial by U.S. District Court Judge George A. OToole Jr.
But while Carney passed photographs under jurors eyes of a boyhood Mehanna sitting on Santas lap and playing baseball, Chakravarty struck a preemptive blow with a propaganda video by bin Laden the prosecutor said Mehanna translated with English subtitles, as well as a photograph of Mehanna at Ground Zero pointing skyward to where the World Trade Center once stood.
He was going there to celebrate what happened, Chakravarty said.
Mehanna, a Pittsburgh native and Lincoln-Sudbury High graduate of Egyptian descent with a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, faces life in prison if convicted of conspiring to provide material support to al-Qaeda, conspiring to kill American troops and citizens in Iraq and lying to federal agents.
Testimony begins tomorrow. So many people turned out today that the court had to open two additional courtrooms to simulcast the proceedings.
....lawyers for Tarek Mehanna argued the religious and political beliefs of the accused terrorist.... are what make America so great, so strong, so free.....
islam—a religiously-oriented totalitarian political movement for world domination—is NOT what make America so great, so strong, so free, any more than Nazism or communism is!!!!
So what offense is this little terrorist supposed to have committed and what makes him different from the one the w0n just whacked with a drone?
I’m just a bit confused here as to the rules.
He got back to US soil.
When and if fascism comes to America it will not be labeled made in Germany; it will not be marked with a swastika; it will not even be called fascism; it will be called, of course, Americanism -- An uncredited New York Times reporter covering Halford E. Luccock in an article published September 12, 1938.

When Holy War comes to America, they won't call it "Holy War." They won't call it "Jihad." They'll call it "Mom and Apple Pie" or "Peanut Butter and Jelly."
America is that f***** up these days that he just may walk.
My guess is Cowboys and Muzzies!!!
