The meeting was staged political theater, called by the committee of one, California State Senator de Leon, as I recall from the previous report. Very interesting that the BATF backed out on orders from DOJ at the last minute.

...and de León’s outrage over ATF’s involvement in abetting cross-border murders was limited to “[deep concern] that some in Congress are more focused on distracting the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms from their core mission and getting to the bottom of failed policies of the past.”

No government agency, especially enforcement agencies, should be involved in shaping policy other than to turn over collected data. That is not their core mission or anything they should be doing in the least of their activities.
