Steve's teacher in his brand of Zen was himself taught by a fellow I happen to know (who is long dead these many years).

What all of these fellows taught is that attempting to build a personal philosophical and moral structure under Zen standards has absolutely nothing to do with how much money you can make or how smart you can be.

Which means, of course, that their brand of Zen is useless.
