Flat Tax Outpaces 9-9-9 in Poll, Notably Among Conservatives

Gary Langer

October 25, 2011

A flat tax like the one proposed today by Republican presidential candidate Gov. Rick Perry engenders a split decision in public opinion — if not the warmest reception, a better one than the public’s broader disapproval of his rival Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 plan.

While a flat tax divides the nation overall, moreover, it resonates most strongly in a group of particular interest to Perry – “very conservative” Americans, a key GOP voting group. They hold favorable views of a flat tax by a broad 68-28 percent in this ABC News/Washington Post poll,....

...As noted, very conservative Americans express a favorable opinion of a flat tax plan by a vast 40-point margin. The same group, by contrast, only divides on 9-9-9, with 46 percent seeing it favorably, 49 percent unfavorably.

As I read down this thread, I am starting to get the idea that this is one of the favorite parts of this plan!

I said I liked the flat tax but not Perry and was asked why, so I answered.

Oh my gosh lonely star, if you can’t see that GWB was a total disaster then you’re in the wrong place. I could get a starfish a degree from Yale and the Harvard Business School.

Was it that difficult to read the history of the past decade, GWB was an imbecile who contributed as least as much as this present moron did to our present debacle.

Have you hear the moron speak, he was an idiot on steriods, my Gosh, George W. Bush was the worst president the GOP could have put up since....nobody, he was the worst, period.

Longbow,

You need to see how Perry shut down the CNN interviewer when he tried to ask Perry a birther question. Perry took him D-O-W-N, and he did it with quick precision too! LOL

There is a 1 minute segment of Perry’s Q & A session from this afternoon, a couple hours after his speech. Check it out. I think I could almost see fangs coming out of Perry’s mouth! :-) He just wasn’t going to put up with it, not one bit.

I can vote for either Cain or Perry. I will have trouble voting Romney, though. In my state it’s all about principles, because there’s no way for republicans to win California. I prefer a flat tax to 999. I think it’s an easier sell.

“No doubt about it, it’s up to him. The plan is a good one, if he can’t seal the deal, I hope someone else will run with it.”

Newt proposed it sooner, at a lower rate, and he can certainly “run with it”.

No to Romney, and No to Ron Paul. Perry or Cain or Bachmann are OK by me.

likely because lobbyists and special interest groups have hijacked the entire political equality that was supposed to exist.

Newt is a bright guy, but I’d rather see him as the Presidential Press Secretary to the next Republican President.

No you didn't. Irish Eyes asked: "Please list the things you like about Forbes Plan and do not like about Perry's Plan."

Your response was off topic... as usual.

I prefer the flat tax over 9-9-9. However, the flat tax proposed by Perry, %20 rate is too high and is voluntary.
I think a straight %10 no exceptions, no exemptions is the way to go with a flat tax.

Thanks for the link. Yeah, that was good. Now he needs to do that ALL of the time. There is no benefit to entertaining this birther stuff. Getting in to silly conspiracy theories is campaign poison. Going forward, Perry shouldn’t even say “If someone wants to see my birth certificate, that’s fine” like he did in that clip. Any birther questions need to be responded to with a one line, close ended response - a simple “I am not getting into that birth certificate stuff” will do. In a general election, no candidate that gets off into fringe conspiracies is going to win.

I'm not saying GWB was brilliant but he wasn't as dumb as you and the MSM describe him.

GWB was an imbecile who contributed as least as much as this present moron did to our present debacle.

Everything went downhill FAST when the Dems took control of the House.

When did you give Bush an I.Q. test?

BTW, I knew a girl who visited her upper-classman brother at Harvard. She was a Fr. at a small public university in TX. She went to class with him...took the Biology test with his class and made the only perfect score...without ever attending a lecture. She was pre-med but still!
