>> Three and a half billion people later, he is more pessimistic than ever, <<

Then he’s a liar, because he predicted the Earth would be so consumed in famine and war, that the Earth would be depopulated and largely uninhabitable by the mid 1970s.

Paul Ehrlich makes Harold Camping seem responsible and scientific.

Funny how there are many here in this thread even who think that they are prepared for the absolute reign of terrors and horrors that are to come in the TEOTWAWKI. It does not matter how much you have stocked up or how much ammunition that you have the TEOTWAWKI will consume all and engulf you in a sea of mega-destruction and you will get hit with waves and waves of absolute terror and horror.

Myself I have burrowed down deep into the earth and created an elaborate tunnel system to escape the coming TEOTWAWKI. The TEOTWAWKI will be 99% a surface phenomena where hordes of mindless zombie like foollowers of the Population Bomb book will rampage and feed upon those who are left behind.

While it may be half the battle won by stocking up on ammunition and other supplies I suggest you all start digging now. Dig day and night and don’t stop until you are safe.

This same fool also predicted in the 1970’s that the entire population of India will have starved to death by 1985.

The movie Demographic winter took Ehrlich to task for his missed predictions of the population bomb.

Demographic Winter is a good documentary that lays out the truth of the declining population.

And there's an almost 100% chance that Paul Ehrlich will be wrong. The guy has been spouting the same discredited Malthusian philosophy for 45 years. Anyone remember his bets with Julian Simon?

My prediction has nothing to do with population, carbon, food, and the like. It has to do with Muslims. The only group of people growing in the world right now is Muslims. We are increasingly at war with Muslims and they are willing to fight back. After the Arab Spring and Iraq and Afghanistan, I think we will be in perpetual war with Islam until Jesus comes. If we think pulling out of Iraq will fix things, we will see very soon what it will be like to have the whole ME erupt with war and death. We used to think it was the Russians, then the Chinese, but now it's pretty clear to me anyway that the ME will kill anyone and everyone that doesn't pray to Allah. You hand them freedom on a platter and they want Sharia law and Muslim Brotherhood.

We better wake up and start the slaughter before it gets outa hand. Either that or expect the same mercy Kaddafy got in his last minutes.

"The global population has since doubled [since 1968] and, although growth is slowing, is still on course to rise beyond the two billion maximum Ehrlich believes Earth can sustain without irrevocably destroying its water, earth and air.

“The next two billion people, should we get them, will put more and more pressure on environmental systems that are struggling today,” he said. “Each individual has to have food from more marginal land … materials from poorer ores, we’re going to use more oil so we have to drill deeper: we’re past the point of diminishing returns.”

Didn't I just hear that the population just passed 7 billion?

If you read the words of Paul Elrich the worst thing to give humanity in their opinion is empowering technology.

Paul Elrich spews a lot of stuff that is most certainly evil or will result in evil towards humanity.

He is cut from the same cloth that would want humanity to stay on this rock till the sun explodes because they view Humanity as a “plague” on the cosmos.

[tinfoil happy time]
From the stuff people like this spew it almost makes one think that there ARE aliens here and they are influencing or controlling people like Elrich to keep humanity on the planet so they can dominate the space in our neighborhood.

And if not aliens, maybe demons of a sort.

I estimate that there is 100% chance of Erlich being wrong since EVERY other prediction he has made has been wrong.

There’s no such thing as “global civilization”.

There’s Europe and her progeny, and a bunch of savages, barbarians, and Chinamen.

This guy or people like him don’t need to be right; they just need to convince enough powerful people in government that they are right.

I pray I am wrong, but I firmly believe that there is at least a plan to unleash a biological agent that would kill 90 percent of the worlds population IF the powers to be were convinced it were necessary to set things in balance.

I am under no illusions on who would be innoculated. GS 10s and above...

look to acquiring a piece of land that can be passed on to your children and grandchildren. ... Learn to be self reliant, and pass those skills on to other members of your family.

Wow, the solution isn't more world socialism this time but to become a conservative!

A big war wouldn't entirely be bad for America. We would temporarily gut welfare spending and invest heavily in robotics. When the war is over anyone with a backyard can have a robot tended micro-farm.

If civilization collapses it will be from the usual causes.

War, pestilence, disease, starvation.

Most of these have nothing to do with population density and everything to do with governments.
