Omaha Public Schools employees likely will get a controversial book about cultural proficiency during the second semester of this school year.
Reading the book won't be mandatory, but district officials hope employees do read it.
"You really can't mandate anything," said Carolyn Grice of OPS's student and community services department. "It will be an expectation."
The school board spent more than $130,000 in federal stimulus money to purchase 8,000 copies of the book, "The Cultural Proficiency Journey: Moving Beyond Ethical Barriers Toward Profound School Change."
OPS officials have said the book is one aspect of the district's three-year plan "to systematically make a shift in the culture of this organization."

” Moving Beyond Ethical Barriers.... “
Yeah - who needs all those stodgy ethical constraints, when we’re on a MISSION???
They’re not even trying to disguise it anymore, are they??
Stimulus funds. figures.
An anti-ethics book for their employees. wow.
Soon they’ll be teaching and demonstrating doggie style sex for the students too, with no ethical barriers.
Furthermore, the right to life comes before the pursuit of happiness.
What absolute trash. How about a book that will help Omaha teachers understand and value their OWN culture? Or, better yet, a book that requires them to teach their students about the greatness of America? Or they could save the taxpayers’ money and just focus on academic rigor?
This from a school administration with a overall drop out rate of more that 30% . That’s right folks damn near 1 student in 3 does not graduate from the Omaha Public School system. Instead of wasting money on this they should be talking straight to people about what the problems are but tah isn’t PC so it will only get worse.
