Lots of buzz about this among political junkies on Twitter tonight, mostly of the so-bad-its-good variety. Is the image of this guy taking a soothing drag on camera after 40 seconds of ad-tastic exertion really that strange and transgressive? Cains campaign is all about unapologetic populist authenticity, and theres nothing more unapologetically, authentically populist than defiantly lighting one up when the mood strikes, politesse be damned. As the man says, Weve run a campaign like nobodys ever seen. If youve got a problem with casual smoking during presidential spots, well, that only proves what an uptight establishment RINO you really are.
In the next spot, Block should have a smoke in one hand and a can of Schlitz in the other. And as the camera pulls back, theres Cain next to him, eating a slice of Godfathers and giving a big thumbs-up.

Brilliant ad. The age group that guy represents are the ones really peeved at Obama and the state of the country. The smoking emphasizes that they’re not politically correct. Brilliant.
In addition to Math, Herman knows Sales and Marketing.....in fact, he owns these three categories.
Great ad. Love the smoking of the cig.
But on more important news...Let’s get some runs Rangers!!!
Are they going for some sort of retro-chic, Mad Men vibe, maybe? Otherwise, I don't get it.
Yes, thoroughly. This is easily the baddest political ad I have ever seen. I love it!
Undecided smokers throughout the country prefer Cain in larger numbers than before.
You betcha.
And... in response, Axelrod will have an ad where he smokes a joint and Obama eats a Twinkie.
Obama is a twinkie...
Will eating the Twinkie happen before or after Obambo snorts a line of coke?
I also LOVE "MAD MEN", but it is so far removed from that show that no, there is no "vibe" there; none at all.
The guy keeps shacking his head "NO" ( see what body language experts say about what that means!), when he's trying to be "positive".
There is NO substance there at all! It's just smoke and mirrors, with little smoke and no mirrors.
This thread looks like Obamabots seeing things that just aren't there in their candidate of choice; sadly.
Advertising people don't put meaningless things in commercials, even in Internet political ads. They showed something that caught peoples attention. No one has seen smoking in an advertisement on television in thirty years. Maybe there wasn't a message in there for you and that's fine. Ads are targeted to specific groups. The speaker in the video talked about running an unconventional campaign. They made an unconventional ad which broke an advertising and political taboo. Some people will now associate "unconventional" or "real" with the campaign.
As for the head shaking, it goes with the text. "If I DIDN'T believe that..." "We've run a campaign like NOBODY'S ever seen." and "Americas NEVER seen a candidate like Herman Cain." He's reinforcing his words with body language. If he was nodding during those sentences it wouldn't fit. Clever advertising.
X-Files knockoff.
X-Files knockoff.
“Yup, but now he’s aligned with smokers who feel like they’ve been put down for a long time now ...”
Yo, that be includin’ some KOOLs smokers!
That is how a cult operates, in this case it is the Cain cultists. Just remember, most of them are the same folks who thought that "I am not a witch" ad by Christine O'Donnell was great.
Remember that Beatles song that goes "number 9...number 9...number 9..."
It all comes full circle.
No, shaking one's head no, means that the person talking doesn't believe in/agree with what he/she is saying. I truly doubt that they got any advice for this thing, but IF they did, that person or persons should be fired on the spot!
Sadly, I fear that you're seeing what you want to see, along with the other folks here who are claiming that this is a great ad.....which it isn't. It isn't even an ad!
I asked you what the "substance" in the ad is. You didn't tell me. I'd still like to know, so please give it another try.
"Twinkie?"
Was that the guy's name in the pic of O'Bummer sitting with some dude on a couch with luv in his eyes or was it lust? lol
