If George 3rd hadn’t been such an insufferable arbitrary tyrant, the colonies would quite likely have continued as they were. Not so much part of a pattern of decline as a madman in charge.

But I agree - it was WW2 that changed it from a third of the globe to almost nothing in 10 years. That’s the salient point

There are worse things than a Germany that dominates economically and politically, so long as they stay within their own borders and don’t open any death camps. I figure it’s Europe’s problem. Europeans suck at handling their own problems, but at least this time they won’t turn them into a world war. More likely they’ll be overrun with Moose Limbs.

There's an old Yiddish joke which goes somewhat like that: Two Jews meet on the New York subway in 1935, one is reading the local jewish newspaper, while the other one is reading "Der Stuermer". Befuddled the first guy asks: "Good lord, how can you read that Nazi crap?". The second guy answers: "Well, if I read your newspaper it's all so depressing: progroms in Germany, violence in Palestine. When I pick up der Stuermer I get to read about how all Jews are rich, controlling the banks and media and basically running the whole world."

These days you don't need large scale armies to wage large scale war. You really don't even need nukes. The most powerful weapon in the American military arsenal is information! It's what all of our weapon systems are based upon. Whoever knows the most is the most is the one who wins the fight. How is Germany excluded from this paradigm?

Hear, hear! The more accurate your weapons are, the less power they need. One reason the US didn't go in for a lot of 20MT blockbuster nukes like the Soviets did, is because our guidance systems were so much better we didn't need such big warheads to get the same effect.

The more accurate your delivery system, the less you need to "deliver". And since the Cold War, delivery systems have improved by several orders of magnitude.

Does this new paradigm make killing and being killed obsolete?

If not, I don’t see how it refutes my point.
