First, God’s blessings on all those in that region.
Second;
“The mid-day earthquake was recorded at 7.3 on the Richter scale, according to a Greek news agency, and 6.6 by the Associated Press.”
This will be a fun intellectual exercise to figure out which one is right.
USGS currently has it at 7.3.
Now why did you do that? It just screwed up the game to see how the AP stunningly got it wrong again. LOL!
I guess some intern just cut and pasted the prepared report from a past article and forgot the tiny detail of the strength.
I was going to include some anti-AP commentary, but, they are so obviously worthless I thought why bother.
Sympathy quake....
Maybe we should start our own campaign against them
Occupy AP, right on!
hehehehehehe
Isn’t 7.3 an unusually strong earthquake for that region??
Perhaps I’m wrong, or caffiene-deprived, but it seems that all, or most, of the ‘devastating’ earthquakes in the northeastern Mediteranean region have been in the 5-6 range....
Banner only on msnbc.com right now. It’s kind of early for those that gather the news these days. Sunday Today is live, but, they have their canned marching orders before they can get to even mentioning this.
BREAKING NEWS: Turkey quake kills ‘many’ people, town’s mayor tells AP
“BREAKING NEWS: Turkey quake kills many people, towns mayor tells AP”
Having been in that part of the world I ponder the question; over the eons how many people have these same rocks fell on and killed? The peasants build their houses by stacking loose rocks for walls and then there’s an earth quake, stones fall and kill people. Then, these rocks are stacked for walls again, then there’s another earthquake, rocks fall and kill a bunch of people, repeat process over and over till you are tired. So, is this where the definition of insanity was created? You know, doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome...
It’s bad, but in that region (Greece and Turkey) it isn’t unusual.
Well, you KNOW what their Ideology (I am among those who are refusing to call it a “religion”) is, which is ALSO the definition of insanity.
I have a wonderful HS friend from Istanbul.
7.2 seems to be the latest nunber...Not getting much attention on tv
Exploring the area via google earth, seems to indicate this is the site of an ancient super volcano. A lake covers a possible caldera with what looks to be smaller volcanic sites surrounding it.
Sunday Today had a mention in their first news set up which came fifteen minutes in and followed the scripted conversation between Lester Holt and David Gregory about what a foreign policy ace we now have for a president.
I hope your friend is safe during these turbulent times. I was not implying that ALL the people in Turkey are insane. I was referring to the insane IDEOLOGY that enslaves them. If one loves people, one hates enslavement.
“”There are so many dead. Several buildings have collapsed, there is too much destruction,” said Zulfikar Arapoglu, the mayor for the town of Ercis told NTV television.
“We need urgent aid, we need medics,” he added.
The state-run Anatolia news agency said rescue workers were trying to reach people believed to be trapped under the wreckage of a seven-story building in Van, close to the Iranian border.”
