Above-Limit Cesium Found in Tea Produced in Tokyo
Tokyo, Oct. 18 (Jiji Press)--Three samples of green tea produced in Tokyo have been found to contain radioactive cesium exceeding the legal limit of 500 becquerels per kilogram, the Tokyo metropolitan government said Tuesday. It is the first time that above-limit cesium has been detected in tea grown in Tokyo, according to metropolitan government officials. None of the tea has been put on sale, they said.
The tea was grown in three Tokyo municipalities. The sample collected in Mizuho contained 690 becquerels of cesium per kilogram, while the level of cesium stood at 670 becquerels in the sample from Akiruno and at 550 becquerels in that from Musashimurayama.
The metropolitan government instructed three tea growers that produced the green tea to refrain from shipments and sales of their tea grown this year. They will be allowed to restart shipments and sales if the levels of cesium are found to be below the maximum-allowable level in radiation checks to be conducted on all of their tea products later.

Thank God the japanese are honorable people.
Sounds like a “glowing” endorsement for Japanese tea.
Think I’ll start a new line of tea called Above The Limit GITD Tea! It makes you feel all warm inside!
As the tea goes then so does the Human bodies of Tokyo. They are getting dosed every day just the same.
Not necessarily, but I’m sure we’d all measure ever so slight levels of some detectable isotopes from Fukushima. The soil will be contaminated in some ways by rain and dust. Most humans spend a lot of time inside, wear clothes and take shower. The levels detected as mentioned in the article are not dangerous.
Authorities in the Pacific North West were publishing radiation data daily after the incident in Japan. When radiation rates started to climb and some was detected in milk in Washington, data stopped.
