Herman Cain says the Democrats he has supported in the past were “all moderate Democrats.” I was surprised to find my congressman, Rep. Jose Serrano, on that list. Is he a “moderate Democrat”? Let’s ask National Journal:
Serrano has one of the most liberal voting records in the House.
Egad. That does not sound like “moderate Democrat” to me. But let’s look at the details:
In opposition to Cuban Hispanics in Congress, Serrano has been Fidel Castro’s greatest champion in the House. He has sought repeal of economic sanctions against Cuba. When questions arose about Castro’s future after major surgery in July 2006, Serrano issued a press release telling President George W. Bush, “Hands Off Cuba.” When Castro’s brother, Raúl Castro, took control, Serrano said that it was “long past time to end the charade and begin dialogue and engagement with Cuba.” Another of his issues is statehood for Puerto Rico, which he calls an American “colony.” He backs a long-stalled referendum to determine the status of the island. In 2000, Serrano was arrested at the White House while protesting the Navy’s bombing range at Vieques, Puerto Rico. He also took credit for working with Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez and Citizen Energy Corp. to strike a deal to bring cheaper oil to the South Bronx. He has criticized the reluctance of House Democratic leaders to pass immigration reform.
In New York politics, Serrano backed former Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer for mayor in 2001 and 2005. He backed civil-rights activist Al Sharpton for president in 2004.
Moderate? Maybe among a crowd of Occupy Wall Street Froot Loops. But Mr. Cain is a big-picture kind of guy, I suppose. Coddling Castro? Buddying up to Chavez? Minutiae!

Impossible for his letter to support it, because she was only beginning to draft a plan. Nobody knew what would be in it. Perry pointed out to her that rural healthcare was always slighted, and praised the EFFORT at reform. Period.

Aug 21, 2011: I did a vanity post to show how Herman Cain was right to say, "America needs to learn how to take a joke."
I was reading a book about Ronald Reagan (1980 primary) and his sense of humor and how the MSM treated him -- while at the same time experiencing all the fighting on FR. So I typed up an excerpt and made a comment. You can see it got almost ZERO response.
But I lost my sense of humor when the MSM dealt Cain the race-card and he played it.
Is a black man off limits from criticism?

Gore seemed more that way to outsiders than he did to people he represented.
That is neither here nor there. Perry has spoken to this. Perry was still a Democrat. He was looking for the candidate in the primaries that was the more conservative WHEN COMPARED to the others. He believed Gore was that candidate.
Perry acted upon his beliefs when Michael Dukakis was nominated, not Gore.
People have posted that Perry voted twice for Ronald Reagan. Not as many have posted that instead of voting for Dukakis, he voted for the Republican and Reagan’s VP for 8 yrs, George HW Bush.
And after that, he left the Democratic party.
All of this is so warmed over and hashed over, but the reason it’s still brought up after all the truth came out long ago, is that people with a candidate agenda aren’t internalizing and accepting the truth.
They want what they want, and if they can bludgeon Perry with this weapon, that’s what they do.

I take seriously someone who supports a politician who cozies up to brutal dictators like Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro. I'm waiting for the day that I can post Fidel Castro is dead to the "Castro-Cuba" thread and Hugo Chavez is dead to the "Hugo Chavez-Venezuela" thread.
I FEAR that Obama and his gang are leading us the way Hugo Chavez has led Venezuela -- as he learned from Castro.

* Guarantee that a uniform package of basic benefits will be available to everyone, although not all the uninsured will get this coverage right away. Among the basic benefits would be hospital and doctor services, including mental health care, and some prescription drug coverage.
We know through ObamaCare that this 'guarantee' is an incredible burden on the American taxpayer as Barry and his cronies are still looking for ways of raising taxes to pay for it. Do you favor raising taxes to pay for ObamaCare?

I own a small business and I provide a reasonable benefits package for my employees. But I choose to do so at my own expense. I would never look to the American taxpayer to subsidize healthcare costs for my employees. HillaryCare would and La Raza Rick supported it.
The government already had its nose in it. It wasn’t suddenly “sticking its nose in”.
It was going to make changes.
Perry said no more than, please don’t forget the rural folks, as if they don’t matter. He didn’t want small town clinics and hospitals to close, when already rural folks had the devil of a time getting health care.
But that wasn’t the charge I came on this thread to respond to, the charge was, Perry knew the details of Hillary’s plan and supported her plan.
A lie.
A few days ago I thought Perry still had a decent amount of support here on Free Republic, that was until I payed more attention and noticed almost all pro-Perry articles and replies were being posted by the same people. It seems Perry has about 3 supporters here.
They don’t understand we will never support Perry because he gave illegals in-state tuition. He has even hurt himself in Texas, and now the in-state tuition law for illegals will probably get repealed which is the only good thing to come from Perry’s failed campaign.
