“But when asked later in the news conference why he refused to take ownership of the comments, Cain said that he did, and that he was only apologizing if he offended anyone.”
Thanks...I was just thinking that after I posted. It was a half-apology, like good politicians do. He NEVER said that he was now against a wired border fence.
Perry did a similar half-apology for Gardacil (the drug that allows teens to have wild and crazy sex without consequences, or with less consequences). Perry said he regretted not going through the state legislature...he never said it was a mistake to mandate the shots.
Good point! Like the criminal that regrets his actions, but only because he got caught! :)
Wow. That is a complete misinterpretation of the english language there.
He SAID he was joking. He was asked about taking “ownership” of what he said, and he said he was apologizing IF he offended anyone with his JOKE. He was taking responsibility for his joke offending people, not “owning the idea”.
He said that making a killer electrified fence was a JOKE, that he wasn’t pretending he didn’t say it, and he apologized if his joke offended anybody, but that we should learn to take a joke.
How you could get out of “it was a joke” that he is actually standing by his proposal is beyond logic.
