Baby Lisa's Mom: I Was Drunk When She Vanished

In the latest twist in the case of a missing Kansas City infant, the child’s mother admitted that she was drunk on the night of her baby’s disappearance and expects to be arrested.

Breaking a nine-day silence, Deborah Bradley, the mother of missing 10-month-old Lisa Irwin, told NBC News about her behavior on the night of Baby Lisa’s disappearance and her fear of possibly being arrested given the nature of the latest questioning by investigators.

“Judging on how the questioning went, that’s kind of the fear that I have,’’ Bradley told NBC’s Peter Alexander in an exclusive interview alongside the baby’s father, Jeremy Irwin, that aired on TODAY Monday. “The main fear is that if they arrest me, people are going to stop looking, and I’ll never see her again, and I’ll never know what happened.’’

I wonder if the baby had an overdose of the Zany pills or what ever you call them.

Mom lays baby down with her, then rolls over on the baby and suffocates it, all in an either drug or alcohol induced stupor. Truly sad.

If you all remember, Dad said Mom was asleep on their bed with her son when he came home after 4:00 a.m. I wonder if the baby had ALSO been on the bed...

I think I’m already on the Baby Lisa ping list. If so, thank you!

Not an expert, but if she consumed 5-10 glasses of wine, and if she had medication in her system... if she breast feeds the baby (don’t know, but imagine she was), is the baby in danger of poisoning? How quickly would the alcohol/medication transfer to the baby’s milk. Perhaps this would cause sudden death.

I could see that if the baby was younger- at 10 months I would bet the baby would not just get smothered, 10 month olds are capable of moving their head, neck, shoulders easily- squirming- or pitching a major fit when in a bad spot. Most are even walking or about to- pretty mobile and vocal anyway at that age.

Not another Casey Anthony situation?

I can’t see her being the type of person who would go into a drunken raise and beat the child to death, but she might get drunk enough to pass out on the child and the child can’t do anything about it.

She said she takes anxiety medication. Combine that with alcohol - not good.

Sometimes SSRIs are given for anxiety

If she was drunk, and still an accident, I’m guessing she may have suffocated it by mistake.

Not "it."

Her.

Even though she was drunk, and possibly high, she’s still a mom.

Being a mom doesn't automatically elevate every woman to sainthood status. Besides that, dogs, cats, rats, bugs are "moms" too. Giving birth isn't what makes a woman a "mom" so far as human beings are concerned. There is much, much more to it than just that.

For all who think she made a boo boo and accidentally smothered or otherwise killed the baby...if that were so WHY would she lie about it? If it really were an innocent accident why not just call 911 or the police? I believe this same question arose in the Caylee Anthony case and Casey never did have an answer to it.

I was not aware of the child’s gender.

I know that being a mother doesn’t make you a saint, but most people still try to be good, despite their flaws.

The woman doesn’t seem like the type to deliberately harm her child, which is why I’m thinking accidental death.

As to why she didn’t immediately go to the police, the simple answer is shame and fear. Most people in her family may not have been aware that she was an addict, hence the shame. She was probably fearful of the consequences of having killed her kid.

I think we may have gotten the answer as to why she might have lied...she was drunk. If she weren't drunk but only fell asleep, it would be an accident. Drunk, and she's looking at manslaughter.

Of course, lying is inexcusable.

“Baby Lisa” in the thread title is a major clue.

I HATE these cases.

Was it the parent(s), or was it NOT the parent(s)?

In the end, it’s almost always irrelevant - the child has either been killed, either way, or the child has and will suffer some other way, either way.

These cases are always lose, lose for the child no matter what. Makes me sick.

Yes, that would be a clue.

Aren’t you glad I’m not the lead detective?

That’s what I’ve been thinking too. I can’t adequately describe the Dad’s demeanor. His speech is strange. Like he knows something and is afraid that if he speaks too much he’ll accidently let the cat out of the bag.
