A Breitbart.tv investigation has uncovered that the man whose epic meltdown video at the "Occupy Wall Street" protests went viral is really Edward T. Hall III. Mr. Hall is a Columbia graduate student who has a trust fund set up by his grandfather. He recently made headlines for trying to board a flight at JFK airport by hopping the ticket counter and diving onto the baggage carousel. He was charged with trespassing and is free on "conditional release."

“I wish to develop socially based interventions to help moderate excessive discounting.”— I’m pretty sure there is a word missing between moderate and excessive but this seems to me to be that he tries to find ways to start social movements (i.e. community organizing) to help speed up social recognition of what he sees as environmental problems; i.e. use community organizing to get people to not “discount” the “severity” of environmental problems.

I think you're spot-on. But I don't believe there is a word missing between "moderate" and "excessive." I think he's using "moderate" to mean "temper." In other words, change people's behavior with regards to dismissal of the "Green Apocolypse." I think he must have been stoned during the entire semester of "Syntax 101."

Ah, it does make more sense when you take the term “moderate” in that manner... it was the use of “help moderate” followed by “excessive” that I think threw me off... It probably should read something like “My work seeks to develop socially based interventions to assist in the moderation of excessive discounting” but I guess less clarity in his writing makes it easier for him to hide his nefarious motives...

C.S. Lewis, who had a Double First in Classics back when that was really something to write home about, said that the true test of expert knowledge is ditching the jargon and explaining yourself in plain English. If you can't do that, you probably don't know what you're talking about.

This guy makes a Philadephia lawyer look like a model of clarity, so I'm pretty certain he knows he has no idea what he's talking about and is just hoping to brazen it out.

So the rich kid from Alberquerque gets admitted to Columbia U Grad School as a legacy in the same field his Columbia U grandfather studied and received letters, which means his entire interview process evolved around meeting and greeting the designated interviewer of the Columbia U alumni network in New Mexico, then talking with the Dept head at Columbia U and the financial aid office. No GMATs, MCATs etc required.

Since grandpops set up a trust fund it’s more probable than not it has strings attached that require him to attend graduate school to use the money.

The discounting he is talking about isn't like getting a percentage off an item or total .
