And you had a responsibility to God, who created you and made procreation the first commandment.

Actually that would be "Thou Shalt Have No Other Gods Before Me."

I'm surprised Feder could talk about the 1960's and birthrate decline without mentioning "The Population Bomb" and the concerted efforts to get people to voluntarily curb their birthrates. He also neglects the universal effect of economic advancement on declines in births. It hasn't all been mere hedonism.

In any case, I am skeptical that a continually increasing population is essential for prosperity, or that the only alternative is an aging population in decline. There is no reason a population can't achieve a steady state, and prosper with advances in technology, efficiency, health and productivity, and changing interests.

The roots of Demographic Winter lie in the 1960s.

Baloney. Agrarian societies need more children because in those societies, children are capital. The more industrialized a society becomes, the fewer children are required.

I know that the way the courts are so biased against husbands/fathers there’s a lot of guys not wanting to have kids, only to be turned into slaves for the ex and have the state consider them de facto criminals.

Watch the documentary Demographic Winter on youtube in I think 9 parts. Covers much of what is here, and a whole lot more, with charts & graphs and tangible illustrations.

A finding of these demographers is that our economic downturn in 2008/9 is directly linked to population decline, and as such cannot be reversed. People spend at their peak in their 40s, on homes, businesses, kids. And then it drops off drastically, and their money goes into investments, and is in turn borrowed by the next generation coming up. The baby boomers have begun reaching this over-the-spending-hill, and there will not be a comparable younger generation coming up to invest in at the same numbers. Japan's economic downturn preceded ours by 20 years because they did not see a baby boom after WWII, and we are paralleling they're economic malaise. This is something the film makers concluded without having set out to prove this.

Along with a fixation on self came a lessening of feelings of responsibility for the things that really matter. Curiously, we feel responsible for endangered species, pollution and the ozone layer (things largely beyond our control) – but not for our families, our nation or our people.

Thoughtful - Thanks for posting this...

When we had our sixth I had this put on the birth announcement:
From the fullness of grace we have received one blessing after another.
John 1:16

Some get it, others don’t. Sadly the bad comments outweighed the good when announcing the pregnancy. I jokingly tell my husband next time everyone will know only when the baby is born.

As a conservative, militant some might say, I see great positives in this report. Conservatives continue to procreate while the left, through abortion, same sex unions, and cohabitation, are culling themselves to extinction. Note: in the U.S. approximately 1.5 million abortions occur each year. Legal since 1973, the 13,500,000 aborted by liberals prior to 1982, did not get raised in a liberal household and become eligible to vote in the 2000 election. After all, you can’t get conservatives to abort a child even at gun point. Al Gore losses by the skin of his teeth. The 1994 election was the first election Roe-v-Wade victims would have been able to vote in and Republicans took over the house for the first time in 40 years. Though it is against my personal beliefs, this IS a culture war. And if the enemy is willing to commit suicide, and continue to encourage it, I will not oppose them. Nancy Pelosi was right. The funding for contraception and abortion she defended DOES save future government expenditures because those that it affects would most likely grow up to be worthless Wall Street occupier types. Those of us it does not affect, will have our children and raise them to be productive God fearing patriotic citizens. Makes me want to send a donation to Panned Parenthood.

This includes fitting condoms over bananas, which – at least in the case of fruit – seems not to be working that well, as we still have an adequate supply of bananas.

That's because the Cavendish bananas we eat don't reproduce sexually, no matter how you eat your banana.

Along a similar vein, the cucumbers used in the daily Malthusian drills are generally picked before they mature. You ain't getting baby cucumbers from it no matter what you do with it.

Jesus, my wife, and my kids are my reasons for living. I cannot imagine life without them.

I am beginning to see why the suicide rate is so high. If eating, drinking, sex, and games are all there is, why bother?

Recently saw a chart of Japanese fertility rates. It showed a steady decline for the last 30 years, with a rise in the near future back to replacement levels, leading to a stabilization of population in about 50 years.

The accompanying article made no attempt at all to explain why the decades-long decline actually shown by the data would not just continue. The consequences are apparently so appalling they can’t even visualize the possibility, so they just ignore their own data and its extrapolation.

[21] And God created the great whales, and every living and moving creature, which the waters brought forth, according to their kinds, and every winged fowl according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. [22] And he blessed them, saying: Increase and multiply, and fill the waters of the sea: and let the birds be multiplied upon the earth. [23] And the evening and morning were the fifth day. [24] And God said: Let the earth bring forth the living creature in its kind, cattle and creeping things, and beasts of the earth, according to their kinds. And it was so done. [25] And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds, and cattle, and every thing that creepeth on the earth after its kind. And God saw that it was good.
Even before man was created, God said to the animals: "Increase and multiply", and then He said:

[26] And he said: Let us make man to our image and likeness: and let him have dominion over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and the beasts, and the whole earth, and every creeping creature that moveth upon the earth. [27] And God created man to his own image: to the image of God he created him: male and female he created them. [28] And God blessed them, saying: Increase and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and rule over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and all living creatures that move upon the earth. [29] And God said: Behold I have given you every herb bearing seed upon the earth, and all trees that have in themselves seed of their own kind, to be your meat: [30] And to all beasts of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to all that move upon the earth, and wherein there is life, that they may have to feed upon. And it was so done.

This was God's very first command to the living!

>>The hallmark of the 60’s revolution was youth rejecting authority - especially parental and religious authority. Supposedly this was a sign of intellectual independence and maturity. In reality, it was blind acceptance of a set of clichés and dogmas in place of eternal truths and time-tested wisdom.<<
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

This is what you get when 3 full generations of citizens are indoctrinated in GODLESS secular humanist government schools. The first 2 generations limp along in the light of tradition. The 3rd generation falls apart.

—The earliest compulsory government schools in this nation ( mid-1800s to early 1900s) fed their captives ( oops! students) a lukewarm and generic socialist-funded Protestantism. We know what Christ does with the lukewarm. He spits them out of His mouth!

—My grandmother ( born 1894) and father ( born 1913) were fed godless secular humanism ( with an occasional nod to God) in their government indoctrination camps.

—By the 1960s government indoctrination camps were utterly godless!

Children who attend schools with a secular humanist worldview ( since my grandmother's day) **will** learn to think and reason godlessly. They **must** simply to cooperate with the classroom indoctrination.

It started LONG before the sixties. Please remember that Bill Ayers and his wife Bernadine Dohrn were promoted to positions of power by people who were my grandmother and father's ages! ( Born 1894 and 1913).

The economy won’t get better for a long time. We are in a period of demographic decline.
