Theres one message from the 2010 elections that many so-called policy makers, political elites and analysts did not hear. Namely, the American people are not as uninformed and stupid as they think we are.
President Obamas Debt Commission and the Bipartisan Policy Centers Debt Reduction Task Force have both floated its ideas for reducing our nations runaway national debt. .....
The worst idea is a proposed national sales tax, which is a disguised VAT (value added tax) on top of everything we already pay in federal taxes.
Here are three of the biggest reasons the national retail sales tax is the worst idea on the table.
First, we have a spending problem in Washington, D.C. not a revenue problem. ......
Even worse is reason number two: In every country that has established a VAT with the promise of reducing their national debt, the VAT has eventually gone up or expanded on top of the existing tax structure. ....
For the liberal naysayers who say that would not happen, you lose! Just look at the Social Security system, Medicare and Medicaid. Over the years since their inception, taxes have gone up, benefits have gone down and they are still on a path of insolvency.
Giving the administration and Congress another tool to tax us and confuse us is like giving an alcoholic a key to the liquor store with no supervision, only to discover that he locks the door after he is safely inside.
A national retail sales tax on top of all the confusing and unfair taxes we have today is insane! It gives the out-of-control bureaucrats and politicians in denial one more tool to lie, deceive, manipulate and destroy this country.
People are not stupid. Maybe they will hear us in 2012.

Its called the Fair Tax. Its as easy to understand as ABC! Thats the problem. Its fair. It is simple and understandable. But the politicians and bureaucrats do not want to give people more control of their own money. Thats why even though the legislation has been introduced in every session of Congress since 1999, it has not advanced. People are not stupid. Maybe they will hear us in 2012. But don’t forget, under 9-9-9, when the flour maker buys wheat from the farmer, he’ll be paying a 9% Fed Sales Tax that HE NEVER PAID BEFORE.
It’s Herman Cain’s own words on his own site! Take it up with Herman Cain!
It is apparent that so many are fixated upon the 9-9-9 plan and not the complete message of Cain. We all, as well as Cain, are well aware that spending must be reduced significantly. The fact that spending must be reduced is axiomatic. Cain has laid out spending cuts as well as needed regulatory eliminations, beginning with the EPA and Dept. of Education. If you weren't prepossessed with the 9-9-9 plan maybe the totality of Cain's message would reach your ears.
see 81 and see what a deceptive piece of work taking something completely out of context reversed the position presented.

>> Pointing out that there are differences between a VAT and a sales tax is far from pedantic
You are ignoring the following facts:
1) The machinery necessary to administer a national sales tax is essentially the same as that required to adminster a VAT; and
2) Many on the Left have long dreamed of an EU-style VAT in America.
Roll those two up, and the concept of a VAT getting a foot in the door with Cain’s national “sales tax” is not in the least farfetched.
THAT is what many of us are concerned about — along with the idea that a) the sales tax will add to, not supplant, the income tax, and b) a revenue hungry Congress will very soon raise the 9-9-9 rates to 12-12-12 or even higher.
These are NOT idle concerns, and to ignore them is to be naive of how our big government actually works.
You’re missing the point that Cain’s idea is a tax structure which replaces what we have now. And it’s not a VAT.
Cain was not against a national sales tax last December. He was against a national sales tax on top of what we already pay.
The first part of the proposal, is to rein back the income tax to only one low, uniform, and fairly applied rate for all taxpayers, limited in such way it CANNOT be raised except by a supermajority of both the House and Senate. Then, the FICA tax would be repealed, and replaced by the national sales tax, which then goes to pay for the Social Security and Medicare trust account. The Corporate income tax rate wouold also be reduced to one flat level.
Obviously, this would never get through the legislative process without a lot of people wanting to tinker with it, or tweak it in so many ways before it ever becomes part of the tax code, it may be unrecognizable by then.
Just curious. Are you not concerned that "a revenue hungry Congress" will raise the current income tax schedule?
How is the 9-9-9 plan any different in this regard?
To oppose a tax structure on the basis that Congress might later increase the rate is silly.
Congress can always increase the rates, on any tax, if they think it’s politically viable.
In other words, this argument could apply, in the same arbitrary way, to any tax proposal.
They won’t raise the 9 on sales tax. They’ll just expand the items “eligible” for sales tax. Used items. Certain services. Etc.
Well personally, Perry's 2008 Giuliani endorsement bugged me much more, but Perry was still one of my top choices this year. The inflection point of Perry on the RCP poll is really stunning.
>> Just curious. Are you not concerned that “a revenue hungry Congress” will raise the current income tax schedule?
Absolutely! Which is precisely why I don’t want to give them one more way to stick it to us.
Misleading others about a candidate in order to boost your guy is......DISHONEST!!!!!
The entire article's point was to boost FAIR TAX !!!
Fair Tax is NOT a VAT, it is a national sales tax that REPLACES all other federal taxes and ELIMINATES THE IRS !!!
There is NO plan proposed by anyone that is more conservative.
By being DISHONEST you are helping defeat THE MOST CONSERVATIVE TAX PLAN.
A pox upon you.
Steenking varlet.
But he has already stated that the only business tax deduction would be on equipment replacement. How does that absolve them of paying 9% more on everything else including his accountant services? How then is it not a VAT?
Someone else authored the following on another website:
On Meet the Press Cain says you shouldnt add the 9% federal sales tax he proposes to your state sales tax. Bottom line is a 999 plan will more than double sales tax in all states. When asked if he thought that would hurt the low income and the elderly and he replied no because they wont have to pay taxes on their capital gains. Really ! How many low income people have even heard of capitol gains let alone had any. Many struggle from paycheck to paycheck and spend the money on essentials like food, which under his plan would be taxed 9% higher than they pay now. Unless they buy used food which wouldn,t be taxed. Wow, that gives me an idea, maybe I could open a store selling Beef and market it as used hay and corn.
Now you've gone and done it...Tick'ed me off with your dishonesty.
On SEVERAL other threads you have been told, and the linked article illustrates, that Cain's objective is FAIR TAX.
Yet you continue to dishonestly portray it as something other than what it is.
Steenking varlet.
Anyone care to change anything or apologize?
