Okay, how this would be done (logistically and politically) I have no idea, but **FIST BUMP** to Mr. Cain for having the gonads to say it out loud!

It isn't as if we have never built a long barb-wire topped fence before. What is the combined distance of all the fences around US Airports? The one around DFW alone is probably 40 miles. Times 200 airports and airbases? You could triple fence the border it for less than those fences cost.

The only logistical impediment to a fence is the EPA.

President Cain could secure the border in very little time.

Issue an order to V Corp to come home. Give them the mission "Secure and protect the border."

Gen. Gibbs will respond with the Corp motto.

Well, here is a plan. Arrest all illegals that are currently in the country. Convict them to 6 months of labor on the fence construction. The border is about 2,000 miles long. If your dragnet catches only 1 million illegals then you can have 500 workers per mile, or one worker every four yards - for 6 months. Tell the workers that they are free to go (to Mexico :-) once the fence is built and accepted. I'm sure they will be done within a week.

The fence will have watch towers, two per mile. The towers will be bulletproof, air-conditioned, and manned 24/7 by snipers. The fence will also have various sensors to notify the guards. The task of those guards will be to discourage crossers. The fence will be built entirely on the US territory, set back about 300 yards of "no man's land." Anyone in that zone will be fair game - so they can't bring the equipment and set up camp on Mexico's side while they are preparing the crossing. If a large, armed group is attempting to cross using armored vehicles or shoots back then the guards will call air support. Some of that can be delivered using missiles; as long as the missiles are accurately guided - to, say, a couple of yards - this will keep the invaders busy until the helicopters show up.

None of that is rocket science. USSR maintained even a tighter border for most of its existence. Their border was also much tougher geographically, and it had to prevent crossing from either direction, and it had to catch even single, well prepared crossers. It worked. The proposed US fence will require 2 guards per mile (4,000 guards at any time) working in 4 shifts (making it total 16,000 guards.) Additional forces will be shared and conveniently positioned for a quick response. The guards can be civilian LEOs or "a well regulated Militia," not necessarily the army.
