Trace Levels of Strontium Detected near Tokyo

Yokohama, Oct. 14 (Jiji Press)--Trace levels of strontium have been detected at three locations in Yokohama, south of Tokyo, the city government said Friday.

The detected strontium-89 and strontium-90 are thought to have been leaked from the crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power station, about 250 kilometers away. Previously, strontium was found in soil in areas 80 kilometers from the plant.

High levels of cesium have already been detected at the three locations in Yokohama.

At two of the locations, strontium was measured at 59 and 129 becquereles per kilogram of sediment. The level at the remaining location was not released due to privacy concerns.

Although the levels of strontium are not problematically high, the fact that the material reached as far as Yokohama matters, a city official said.

I think it’s more than trace amounts:

“(UPDATED) Strontium in Yokohama: City Still Hides (But Information Wants to Be Free...)

(UPDATE: Iwakami just disclosed the number that Yokohama City wanted to hide in the press conference last night.

From the apartment building rooftop sediment:

Radioactive cesium (previously measured): 105,600 becquerels/kg

Radioactive strontium (89 and 90 combined): 236 becquerels/kg”

There are trace levels of Santorum in our Republican primary polls as well. This can’t be a coincidence.

Whoa. Is there a way to determine if these elements occurred during the initial tsunami disaster and flooding or is it from coninued slow but steady leaking? None of this is good news. Has anything been said about those brave workers that went to the site for cleanup?

As for brave workers, some of them could not be tracked down. Their identity is a mystery. Personal info on the worker's roster is apparently bogus.

Many suspect that these are workers recruited by Yakuza, and assigned to work without getting a proper training and wearing necessary safety suits. It is likely that they are ordinary day laborers or homeless.

They could get sick due to radiation exposure but won't show up at the official statistics. Especially Yakuza leaning on them. I believe it is a plausible allegation.
