When they vote on their legislative agenda on Tuesday, New York States top education officials will focus for the first time on the contentious topic of illegal immigration. The agenda, proposed by the state education commissioner, John B. King Jr., to the Board of Regents, has as a top priority a proposal to push Congress to pass legislation that would provide a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants who go to college. Included in that legislation, known as the Dream Act, is a provision that would give students who are in the country illegally access to tuition assistance at city and state universities. The agenda is expected to be approved.
The lobbying effort would thrust the State Education Department into the heart of a highly politicized debate that has divided communities for years and spawned a hodgepodge of state regulations in response to the federal governments inaction on reforming the countrys immigration laws.

Will they call it the “Ricardo Perry” bill?
The Marxist commies are working hard to fill the voter rolls with freeloading, non-American socialists.
Here we go again. More Mexican votes at taxpayer expense all flying in the face of the Constitution.
Yep. Tuition assistance = code for tax payer money.
Nobody tell perry.
He would send tx rainy day funds to illegals
It sure is great to know that NY is so flush with cash that they can afford to pay for the education of foreign nationals.
whatta stupid idea.
many of the people that pay taxes for this cannot afford to educate their children.
You seem to fail to grasp the fact that “college” is actually a “big business”, partly subsidized by government.
At one time, it seemed perfectly logical to allow taxpayer funds to be used to help support higher education institutions.
How else did we as a society who wanted our best and brightest minds to further their education and become our future scientists, doctors, engineers and educators achieve our joint goals?
We wanted to encourage them to study and advance their much needed, but low paying (at the time) specialties, and were willing to help defray their educational costs, as an obvious investment for all our future endeavors.
Enter corruption into the world of good intentions, and here is the end result:
1.Scientists can't ignore popular politicians, and science suffers.
2.Doctors can't ignore popular politicians, and medicine suffers.
3.Engineers can't ignore popular politicians,and engineers suffer.
4.Scholars of obscure subjects can't ignore popular politicians, and scholars suffer.
Meanwhile, institutions of higher education make tons of money from “students” pursuing degrees in political science, art, communications and basket weaving. All subsidized by taxpayers.
Ready for a dose of real change yet?
I am.
Ping!
ping
Insanity.
