Herman Cain lashes out at 9-9-9 critics

Bartlett, Tenn. - Herman Cain lashed out at his critics Friday, accusing detractors of his 9-9-9 tax reform plan of trying to slow his newfound momentum with baseless attacks. During his first campaign swing since surging in the polls, Cain told a tea party crowd near his birthplace of Memphis that the plan would grow the economy by five percent at minimum, and pledged to pass it in his first 90 days in office.

“Can y’all see the bull’s eye on my back?” he joked to the crowd of several hundred supporters who had gathered in a city park here to see Cain. His critics, he said, “don’t know how to respond to a real solution to a problem.”

Questions have mounted about Cain’s proposal, which would throw out the federal tax code and replace it with a nine percent flat income tax, a nine percent flat corporate tax and a nine percent national sales tax.

The name of the plan has become so synonymous with Cain’s upstart presidential bid that a supporter here held up a sign that read, “Category 999 HURRICAIN.”

Independent analysts who pored over the plan in recent days have said it would raise taxes on the poor and middle class. Fellow conservatives have warned that those nines could creep upward over time. And observers have noted that it would face an uphill battle in Congress.

Cain on Friday derided the former criticism as “Washington math.” He said that citizen pressure would prevent lawmakers from gradually raising the tax rate, which he called “sneak-a-taxes.” And the businessman said he is not afraid to promote a plan that is politically unpalatable.

He isn't in the bumper-sticker business.

Who do you think pays to have his campaign bumper stickers made?

I fully expect a home-made, low-cost, creatively inspired sticker to adorn your car window soon.

Nope. My money is going where my mouth is. To Cain. Campaigns aren’t won on wishes alone. It takes money to run a successful campaign.

Great. Mine also. Scale back the energy you devote to fighting samizdat.

You sent the money you saved on your bumper sticker to Cain?

he has said: 10% across the board, and more where possible.

How about 10% across the board, plus a lot of 100% cuts.

Netizen, Check out my updated profile. I tried to address what appears to be a concern of yours, that a home-made Cain sticker might be viewed as a way to hurt Cain by making his campaign appear low-budget and unprofessional. That isn’t the intention at all. I want him to succeed.

The Soviet Union freed itself from tyranny in part through dissidents’ self-publishing, below the radar of authorities. That was known as samizdat in Russian. Although we don’t *need* to do it now in the U.S., it is a valuable tradition and keeping the flame alive is a good idea. And, personally, I like having a home-made sign because it tells people that I, not some sign publisher, dictate what’s goes on the car.

Peace, success and victory.

I never said that. I said that the money would be best served by being sent to Cain for his campaign war chest. And after several posts opposing me, you finally say that you are on his monthly donor list. It was NEVER about looks it was about his needing the money.
