The politicians and their profiteers see us as cattle, and the herd has reached critical mass. Once a population has reached critical mass, the totalitarian thinking governments and financial powers of the world can no longer control it. The herd has to be thinned. Rather than just kill people, they get the people to kill each other. There's no resistance that way, and the powers can still stand on the sidelines, unscathed.
