Manufacturing, agriculture, high tech, retail, and healthcare sectors would pay 15% in corporate tax. Financial sector would pay 25% in corporate tax.

That sounds like what we have today, taxing some industries more because some politician doesn't like them. The government should not be in the business of picking and choosing who they want to tax. Progressives love this, make those mean old bankers pay.

Let everyone pay the same tax. That's what is called "equal protection".

You know this is a conservative website, correct?

If you look at the postings of jgge, I'm dubius that he does.

I'm sorry, turning every person, including your babysitter and lemonaid stand operator into a sales tax collecting agent for the federal government is WAY too much government participation in every activity in life.

40 of the 50 states have a sales tax now, but don't have the problems you describe.

Sales taxes are not collected on services (a service tax is called a service tax, it's a different thing entierly), that's why the babysitter won't be drug in. She is providing a service, so no sales tax.

All sales tax systems have a minimum amount of sales you must make before you have to start collecting sales tax. That's why the lemonade stand operator won't become a tax collector for the feds, they don't enough in gross sales to start collecting sales tax.

I don't mind a vigorous debate on Cain's plan (in fact I perfer it, it helps work bugs out of the system, and every system has bugs), but let's at least stick to facts.

40 states have a sales tax in place that works and is a model for how a federal sales tax would be implemented.

Instead of making wild accusations about what would happen under a federal sales tax, we should look first at how that potential problem is handled under the state sales tax system. Almost every time I've done that, it turns out there has been a simple solution to handle the "problem" for a century or more.

We're not reinventing the wheel here, we're taking about a system that has been in place at the state level for over a hundred years.

PS: Herman Cain is also a politician, but he is a failed politician as he ran for public office and lost.

Um, no, it might make him a failed candidate but it does not make him a politician, failed or otherwise.

In 2020, after 8 years as president, it will be proper to call Herman Cain a "politician".

Name one conservative President who pushed and or passed a flat tax? None did because it is not possible to pass it as we live in the real world after all. They all pushed for reductions in the current tax rates. However the conservative Presidents did not introduce a new tax such as Cain national tax and that new tax is exactly what we called Liberalism, in fact it is at the heart of Liberalism. How can a person who claims to be conservative introduce a new tax? How can someone who claims to be conservative support a new tax?

Now is there is rule on Free Republic stating that members must support flat tax? I am not aware of it. Is there a rule on Free Republic stating that members must support a new tax such as national sales tax? I am not aware of it. Please let me know if these rules exist.

I do agree with you that the place that needs change is congress, the senate, and state and local officials.

Name one conservative President who pushed and or passed a flat tax?

Name every conservative President in the last 100 years. Ronaldus Magnus has a democrat controlled congress so it was amazing what he did manage to get passed.

However the conservative Presidents did not introduce a new tax such as Cain national tax and that new tax is exactly what we called Liberalism, in fact it is at the heart of Liberalism.

So Cain's plan, which eliminates the IRS, eliminates the corporate loop holes that stifle competition, eliminates the thousands deductions and penalties and socialist tricks which Congress uses to mandate our behavior, removes the unjust, crippling and evil FICA tax and makes everyone a participant in government is liberal. Yet your plan to tinker with the status quo which is leading us to ruin is conservative?

Now is there is rule on Free Republic stating that members must support flat tax?

No, it just makes it easier to see who truly supports the fundamentals of our system and who is just along for the ride.

Is there a rule on Free Republic stating that members must support a new tax such as national sales tax?

The "new tax" meme is getting old. Cain wants our tax burden reduced to three simple areas. You want to keep twenty. I'll take the new put in by conservatives. You stick with the old designed by Marx.

Wow. Didn't know that we were limited to what we could discuss on a thread. News to me. Thanks for the heads up.

Why the snark? I didn't say we couldn't discuss Perry. Your comment said "since we are discussing Perry." I haven't been discussing Perry, so I didn't now why you asked me about him.

If you'd like to discuss Perry, we can. It'd be better to do so on a Perry thread though. I don't want to take this thread too far off topic.

There are plenty of Cain threads and most of them have been beaten into the ground with the same arguments. I'd like someone to hijack one of them and change the subject to something, anything.

I recall Rove being an adviser to Bush, but never a 'spokesman.' Bush's spokespersons were Karen Hughes, Ari Flischer, Tony Snow (God rest his soul) and that really incompetent Scott McClellan. All were pretty good other than McClellan who was in way over his head.

Karen Hughes was not a spoke person for President Bush. She was his his director for his campaign for the office of Governor of Texas. and then as a counselor from 2001 to 2002, while he was President of the United States.

Hughes left the Bush administration in July 2002 to return to Texas, but remained in daily contact with the Bush reelection campaign by telephone and e-mail, and spoke personally with Bush several times a week. In August 2004, Hughes returned to full-time service with the Bush campaign, setting up office on Air Force One, from where she planned the 2004 Republican National Convention and the late stages of the 2004 election.

President Bush's spokespersons (Press secretaries) were in order

Ari Fleischer

Scott McClellan

Tony Snow

Dana Perino

Karl Rove is making lots of us in the country madder & madder with his pontificating about what ANY candidate is doing.

“Wasting his time going to ‘God-forsaken Tennessee’???

How much can you insult an electorate, Rove?

there are many very productive, independent people in Tennessee.

Tennessee has drawn many transplants from other states with their fiscal attitude—not just raising taxes to spend more money—they actually don’t try to do social projuects that are thinly disguised wealth reallocation.
They have no personal income taxes & a very low Workmen’s Comp system—because they don’t take claims for WC lightly—they investigate.

Home prices are decent & propety taxes are fair.

This is something other states could study & learn from.

I happen to know people in Tennessee who left California & their insatiable appetite for more & more taxes & workmen’s comp insurance with no justification. After luring millions of illegals into Calif, natives of that state are leaving in droves.

The attitude of the East Coast Elite Republican Old Guard, like Karl Rove, have apparently totally forgotten about people in Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Missouri, etc. We DO COUNT—and we are NOT stupid.

You are turning every one of us Republicans off more & more each day.

Herman Cain is a breath of fresh air.

Perhaps you should aquaint yourself with some better facts, MR ROVE!!!!!

There are so many empty spaces in your argument that Freepers will poke into!

We are tired of lifetime politicians.

I would gladly vote for a person who has a wide range of experience, military-business-finance and who has NOT obtained political baggage that must come along with him .
Every other candidate has ‘owezeeys’ to a myriad and long list of prior supporters.

Not a big job to decide where or when to open a pizza joint? Not a big job to decide what to charge for a pizza??

Boy, you sure are telling us you don’t know anything about business. Whether it is a plumbing supply house, a grocery store or a ‘pizza joint’, as you call it, there are lots of thoughtful decisions involved.

None of those decisions are made in a vaccuum—careful, decisive thought is involved.

Where to locate the store?
How much is the rent?
What is the traffic that store & others in the area generate?
Will other vendors in that area create walk-in business for my operation?
What is the local labor force capable of?
Are they willing WORKERS who will show up past 1 or 2 weekly paychecks & be properly groomed & personally sanitary enough to prepare food? Or will they mostly be unable to pass the drug tests I demand for employees?
What are the local & state taxes I will have to pay?
What are the local permits processes like & how much are their built in delays going to obstruct my plans? Some smaller communities can delay your permits for years & you will go elsewhere.
What amount of advertising will I have to pay for in advance to generate a customere base?
What are my sources locally for my needed fresh ingredients for my pizzas & salads? Can I get a complete array of soft drink products that my customers wish to have? In some areas of Oregon, you cannot find a single restaurant that carries Coca Cola products. It is only Pepsi.
How stable is the local economy to substantiate my initial investment in this location & to justify keeping it going?

The minutae of detail in running ANY kind of business is not a joke. The details in the paperwork alone is staggering.

That is another reason why American business is so wary of Barry the Imposter.

Perry has lots of good things he is capable of. He also has a solid state legislature behind him on most items.
Supporting Perry is your right.
IF YOU have his ear, you might get him to see a broader picture on ILLEGAL intruders. That issue alone is hurting the entire country.

Many parts of your statistics are correct.

However, I say that you MUST consider something else:

How many of those ‘new jobs’ are really jobs that were transplanted from states like California that the company owners were driven out of where they were comfortable until Califronia & it’s illegals & Democrat voters kept taxing them & regulating them into making the decision to MOVE?

IF California & other states had run their territories with a kinder hand & kept the EPA & the AQMD & all the Sacramento legislators & Union money out of their companies—HOW MANY of those companies would have totally uprooted & relocated?

I know of more than one company that relocated out of Calif. Some went to Texas—no income tax was a lure. Less regulation was a lure. Some went to Tennessee- same story-less taxes & less regulation & easier permit processes. One went to Missouri. Lower land costs for his building needs.

Texas has been growing, YES, but a large part of that growth is from the ESCAPING unhappy people in other states.

There is a difference between a totally NEW JOB & one that moves into Texas from Califronia. That is a TRANSPLANTED JOB & doesn’t lower unemployment.

I can name hundreds of business leaders that would be more effective in the white house than the last few elected politicians.”””

PLUS: These business leaders can have their entire history traced back to birth location & parents because they do NOT have all their records FROZEN & HIDDEN.
