That alone would be a hidden benefit for us all.
You get not only the social benefits of "tough love". You push the "social justice" arguments out of the one-size-fits all Federal solutions to the States or even county/city level. How Mississippi deals with its poor and unable to work is different than how Michigan or New York best deals with it.
Also, the Federal government already implements many "sales taxes" on specific items like gasoline, luxury items, duties, tariffs, etc.
