House Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan says he loves presidential candidate Herman Cains signature 9-9-9″ tax plan.
Ryan told The Daily Caller in an exclusive interview that Cains plan shows the GOP presidential campaign season has entered into a more advanced stage where ideas not just personalities have come to the forefront.
We need more bold ideas like this because it is specific and credible, Ryan said. Im more of a flat-tax kind of a guy.
The budget chairman went on to say that ideas like Cains plan could help shape the debate over tax reform moving into 2013.
Its great to see such bold ideas, Ryan told TheDC.
Commenting on the sniping among the candidates and their criticism directed at Cains plan, Ryan said the entire process would make the eventual GOP nominee stronger going into the general election. Contacted by TheDC on Thursday, Herman Cains campaign was appreciative for the unexpected endorsement.
I consider Paul Ryan to be one of the brightest minds in Washington, D.C., said Mark Block, Cains chief of staff, and for Congressman Ryan to embrace 9-9-9 shows that he also has the leadership to give the American public bold solutions for our current crisis. Mr. Cain looks forward to sitting down with Congressman Ryan.
Dr. Art Laffer also wrote a piece praising 9-9-9, so you have two of the most respected people that are dealing with economics in America praising 9-9-9, Block added. That speaks for itself.

I think it's more like Cat 4. Already I'm seeing the sea dotted with whitecaps and thin cirrus clouds are scudding across the sky. Time for liberals to batten down the hatches.
Does anyone really believe that “9-9-9-” won't become 50-50-50 during our children's lifetime? And if you do believe, please tell me why— because I desperately want to feel the joy too.
Thanks.
LOL, no kidding! He’s had a staff, and Mark Block has been his Chief of Staff since early this year. And he has over 100,000 volunteers, with organizers in every state (and has since this spring). His communications director is now JD Gordon (one time Rumsfeld/Pentagon spokesman)
I never even bothered to respond to those accusations about staff because they were just comical.
All aboard!
Our current tax code could become 90% tomorrow. So, what’s your point?
The same thing that keeps them raising them now.
THE TAXPAYERS. Only this time, EVERYONE pays taxes and everyone SEES the taxes. No more sneak-a-tax
If it were that easy, then just what is preventing the government from instituting a national sales tax -- or even a VAT -- right now and jacking it up to 50%, 75%, 100%? Why didn't Zero, Reid and Pelosi do it when they had all the power during 2008-2010?
***Time for liberals to batten down the hatches.***
Shhhhhhhhhh - don’t tell ‘em;)
I never thought I’d see the media working so hard to promote Newt, but Cain has them wetting their pants. I love it.
With 999 I would think the IRS will be adding staff, not reducing it. If nothing else we would have more people paying federal income taxes and a whole new federal sales tax to administer. I’m not against 999, but we would be throwing out the existing tax code not the IRS.)
They didn't have the blueprint in place---with "9-9-9-" they will.
Big difference.
I agree--our tax percent could change tomorrow--which is exactly why I do not want to add ANOTHER tax without really thinking through what we're all getting so darned excited about.
I wish that would happen, but I'm afraid that a fairly substantial portion of FReepers can not or will not see how they are paying for our massive and impossibly complex tax code. They can't see the 35% corporate taxes on their receipts. The crony loopholes that prevent fair competition and force prices higher don't give them a monthly statement. The crushing payroll taxes are such a part of life that they can't visualize life without that burden.
All they envision is 9% added to their grocery bill. I think many of them are living on Social Security or other fixed incomes and are afraid. I understand that. That is the same fear that will spread 24/7 if Cain gets the nomination. Every retiree or welfare recipient will be inundated with stories of how they will be starved and evicted.
I like Herman Cain a lot and his plan makes sense. I'm all for leveling the playing field for the first time in a century. I think it would cause an economic explosion that would leave China, Russia and the EU begging to pick up our scraps.
But if he's going to run with this as his central theme he needs to start a massive campaign to educate people in very simple terms. Even then our beloved country may be too far gone. Look at how many people here on FreeRepublic will defend the statist progressive tax code to death and support candidates who bury their heads and refuse to face the coming Tsunami.
Cain Nomination:
If Herman Cain is nominated, it will be a seismic shift in voter demographics. Gone for ever will be the solid 95% black vote the Democrats depend on, gone for ever will be talking points of liberals that Republicans are racists, and even better, we will have nominated the most conservative candidate who is not a life long politician and has no political baggage, is likable, has actually run a business successfully. Not a perfect candidate, but significantly better than others.
The 999 is a 1-2 year bridge to the Fair Tax which abolishes the IRS/16th amendment.
Of course---that'll work. Kinda like no nationally mandated and designed health care.
Thanks. I will sleep well tonight.
