“I think you have a misconception of the interest Americans have of news.”
I wish I did. The majority of peole I run into, either have no idea what’s going on day to day, or get their news from the nightly news, or Jon Stewart.
Back in the sixties it was discovered by the MSM that there was a hunger in America for news. ABC started “Eyewitness News”, and other major MSM television followed, or maybe ABC followed some other, but that’s the way I remember it locally.
Then that same desire for news later brought about talk radio as people wanted to know, were genuinely interested in what other people thought of the news, plus they learned of the news from talk radio along with the discussions of the news.
Few if any were genuinely interested in the Leftist perspective of the news so most all of the successful “Talk Radio” was Conservative, or shall we say thereabouts, but the discussions were, and are basically of the truthful perspectives of the day.
Modern MSM is dying, because of their support for the Leftist perspective most if any don’t want to waste their time listening to, watching, reading, whatever the MSM.
My point: “New Media” is at 50/50% with the old MSM in readership which means people are seeking truth, because they want the truth. They don’t want the Leftist perspective as it isn’t truth. It’s the visions of impaired minds, and defense of those visions however they are concocted that turn people to source the truth, and the truth today is more readily found somewhere on the “New Media”.
Perhaps you’re “running into” specific types of person(s) that are just out of the loop altogether. I don’t know, but I’m an old guy, and even the old guys I meet with at the doughnut shop, and some don’t have ‘puters to source the truth are talking the truth about all of the issues. Primarily as I think about it as my friends they would, as I run with only people I like, and I like them because they think, and react to todays news the way I do. We are all Conservative retired military, or retired having served prior, but got out of the military birds of a feather so-to-speak. IOW we are Americans who like to know what is going on, and we all find the truth one way or another, and mostly through the Internet, or from friends that have internet.
Soon I predict the “New Media” will outpace the Old MSM if it hasn’t already as more and more people get disgusted, and seek truth knowing from friends where the truth can be found.
You and we obviously live in quite different environments within these United States of America.
