Expanded use of electronic or "e-pollbooks"

Somebody help me understand what is fair about using those computerized black boxes to count our votes. Only a very few 'special' annointed people have real access to their secret insides. Yes, we have the paper back up but that would only be used in a situation where a close contest requires a re-count. How often does that happen?

Personally I want to see transparent boxes holding paper ballots that are to be hand counted in public, with the results posted at each precinct before ballots are sent anywhere else.

The e-pollbooks won’t be counting votes. They’ll be keeping the voters rolls updated in real time.
