LOL! The Spread Eagle Tavern is a rural, Conservative place, and I don't think that they know what escargot is.
I have eaten it just once in my life, and the next time I want pencil eraser, I may eat it again. Or just stick to the pencil eraser. It's cheaper, and it tastes the same.
I had steak, mushrooms, veggies, and a glass of nice, red wine from Napa, California. Hubby had the special, leg of lamb, potatoes, veggies, and a glass of the wine.
As an aside, I got a ping from someone who "educated" me about snails -- they are hermaphrodites. I've been around the Horn a few times, and I know all about snails, LOL! I told the kindly person that. I really hope that the poster understood the friendly nature of my reply.

ROFL ... Spread Eagle .. quite the original name there. Is it frequented/owned by policemen or named for our American iconic eagle ?
I do love escargot, bathed in garlic butter, toast points on the side for dipping. If you got a tender, properly cooked version, I think your epicurian sensibilities would respond with affirmation. Your dinner date sounds divine .. glad you had such a lovely repast. I hoped, with your fashionable long gown and hair down, there might be some terpsichorean delights .. but, alas, I guess that wasn’t on the menu at the Spread Eagle.. ;)
And, I think I just learned all I didn’t need to know about them snails ... Gary, you’re really quite the slut .. eeeEEEUUWWW .. LOL

I did a little more research, thinking the digestible escargot was quite apart from your typical garden snail. But >> NO! “Any land snail is a potential meal” ... LOLOLOL

Herrings Inn, not far from Fort Drum.
They had a sixteen ounce steak last time I was there.
Two weeks in the field eating mostly MRE’s and some skinny guy like me can put away the whole sixteen ounce steak once we’re out from the field.
As far as I am aware, nothing comparable anywhere near Fort Dix in Jersey.
