Fueled by Tea Party supporters, conservatives and high-interest GOP primary voters, former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain now leads the race for the Republican presidential nomination, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

Cain checks in as the first choice of 27 percent of Republican voters in the poll, followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney at 23 percent and Perry at 16 percent. After those three, it’s Texas Rep. Ron Paul at 11 percent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 8 percent, Bachmann at 5 percent and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman at 3 percent.

I really like Cain, especially after his speech at the “Values” conference.

But I am now convinced that NEWT GINGRICH is the man who should be the next president of the United States.

He is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the single most capable candidate in the field.

I don’t want to hear any of this “baggage” crap or any “electability” garbage. Plain and simple, Gingrich is the smartest, most well-informed candidate out there.

Period.

I don’t know what the Dunce’s plan is, and I don’t really care. I do know that Cain’s plan is idiotic, and toxic, and destined for a deserved failure. Really dumb on his part to hang his whole identity on such a bad plan. I guess he didn’t think he’d actually have a shot. Just wanted to use a gimmick to raise his profile and sell some books. Now he’s stuck with it. Hopefully the GOP electorate aren’t ALL suckers.

So where is Perry’s tax plan?

C'mon, give Perry a break. As he said to Romney in the debate last night, "I've only had 8 weeks to prepare an economic plan, you've been preparing for 6 years." (Or something like that.)

Why would we expect a candidate for President to have thought about the economy for more than 8 weeks? Can't he just figure it out on the campaign trail? /sarc

I mean, once Cain is in the White House, how likely is it that, he’ll actually propose the plan, and how likely is it that congress will actually take it up or even discuss it seriously?

Even if President Cain proposed 999 in its current form it will, as most bills do, look completely different when it leaves Congress. The main idea (which Cain will soon have to find a way to get across) is that Cain is willing to take an ax to the torturous maze that is the tax code and replace it with something else. It doesn't have to be 999. I don't see any of the other candidates going after the tax code.

You are so right. CBS this evening had a straightforward report on 9-9-9 and pointed out how it would hurt those at the bottom of the income ladder. A person making, say, $25,000 a year now pays no income tax. Considering the inflation rate and the cost for rent,food, gasoline, etc., you’re barely surviving at that income level. Herman’s plan would slap a 9% tax on your paltry income and a 9% tax on everything you buy including food, medicine, and clothing. If you’re a poor person living in Pennsylvania, that sales tax would be on top of the 6% sales tax Pennsylvanians of whatever income already pay.

When people get a good look at this nutty idea, Herman’s poll numbers will go down the drain. His appeal is to the simple-minded who buy whatever is the latest fad getting all the buzz. When Herman finally comes under some scutiny, he’ll drop like a rock. The sooner the better with this plan.

3 polls now have confirmed Cain is the front runner. At this point, Perry is only helping Slick Willard. Not only that, Perry is unelectable whereas Cain will crush Hussein.

Has Cain flip-flopped on another major issue such as his tax plan? Remember he is not a politician by profession. He is a successful businessman, rocket scientist, problem solver. He is much much much less likely to lie than....say....Romney.

Clearly the results of this poll makes it clear that Cain can't possible win and is a spoiler for Mitt. If he is the conservative that he claims he is he should get out and endorse Perry.
