Perry said he is opposed to amnesty and will always be opposed to amnesty

But if you're here, we'll not bother you or your parents when you enroll for in-state tuition at one of our Texas colleges or universities.

The fact is Arizona and Alabama's new tough illegal immigration laws are having the intended affect.

Perry is on record as apposing such laws for Texas.

Big Problem for the cheerleader, and I like the guy.

Texas filed a legal document in support of the AZ law challenged by the federal courts. But it’s a law for Arizona.

Most of these students attend community colleges and they represent a small portion of the total 1,700,000 student enrollment of universities here in Texas.

The Feds made the rules, won’t seal the border, won’t apply the laws, tied the states hands, left us to deal with it. So we’re dealing with it. Having these few PAY instate tuition after 3 years in Texas schools, applying for citizenship, graduated and getting more education makes them better Texas residents — that works for Texas.

He opposed laws that make non-immigration agents liable for immigration checks, has said so on the campaign trail and wrote about this in his book, last year.

He supports Section 287(g)and he is against sanctuary cities and has spent time and political capital attempting to change the practices of the City Councils and local Law Enforcement officials who refuse to check citizenship status. However, he has noted (and criticized) the Obama Administration for using regulations to make using 287(g) more expensive and nearly impossible.

Now, the current administration willfully refuses to enforce the laws on the books. While President Bush didn’t do as much as I had hoped, his administration did step up workplace enforcement, reducing the enticement for illegal immigration. President Obama on the other hand, has reversed course. He also has intentionally undermined one of the few successful measures the federal government has implemented. Section 287 (g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act allows the deputization” of local law enforcement after training from federal authorities so that they may process illegal immigrants detained in the course of law enforcement activities for removal. This program simply allows local officials to aid Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the application of our laws

Bowing to pressure from interest groups in favor of unchecked illegal immigration, the Obama administration has instead issued new requirements intended to curtail the program by making it more expensive, among other things. So the Federal government is now manipulating successful programs to stop willing local jurisdictions from doing the federal government’s job themselves. pp122-123

(Referring to the explanation about 287 (g) at http://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2010/03/time-to-stop-the-rush-for-amnesty-immigration-reform )

Immigration is a federal responsibility as you well know. The bill (I remember it being put up) could not get out of committee, so it was a lot more than Perry would not pass it.
