In spotlight, Herman Cain survives Attacks

Herman Cain woke up Tuesday to another day of soaring polling numbers, showing him moving into second place behind Mitt Romney and pushing Rick Perry out of the spotlight.

The day ended with the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO under attack from his rivals, both on stage and in a series of post-debate press releases meant to tear him down.

But from his new center-stage spot next to Mitt Romney, Cain calmly weathered every jab from them, the moderators and even the Democrats, walking out from the Dartmouth auditorium having done little to hurt his standing.

You cannot win elections when you are telling the 50% of the population who pay zero taxes after filing all their deductions under the current tax code that they have to pay a mandatory 9% taxes on their income with zero deductions and an additional 9% national sales tax on every item they purchase including the basic items such as food and clothing.

People are not listening to Cain's statements. He wants to do away with the current tax code with its confusing exemptions and loopholes...not add this 999 tax plan to it. Thus, a person's tax payments will be reduced from what they pay now because feds will be getting 9% versus 12% or up. You will have more, not less of your hard earned money for purchasing things...food, clothing, etc. And, there will be no tax on purchases of used items, only new. So if you buy things from a second-hand store, recycle shop, etc...no tax. Here's a summary:

Phase 1 Enhanced Plan – Summary

•Unites all tax payers so we all pay income taxes and no one pays payroll taxes •Provides the least incentive to evade taxes and the fewest opportunities to do so •Lifts a $430 billion dead-weight burden on the economy due to compliance, enforcement, collection, etc. •Is fair, neutral, transparent, and efficient •Ends nearly all deductions and special interest favors •Ends all payroll taxes •Ends the Death Tax •Features zero tax on capital gains and repatriated profits •Lowest marginal rates on production •Allows immediate expensing of business investments •Eliminates double taxation of dividends •Increases capital formation. Capital per worker drives productivity and wage growth •Capital formation will aid capital availability for small businesses •Features a platform to launch properly structured Empowerment Zones to revitalize our inner cities

•We all know the Fed has tripled the money supply since 2008. They have been printing money out of thin air to finance the Obama spending machine. While true Fed reform that restores sound money may have to wait for my election, the best thing we can do now is to pursue policies that increase the DEMAND for dollars to help mitigate the risks associated with the increase in the supply. •Pro-growth economic policies equal a strong dollar policy

Go to Cain's website to read more and know what it is about.

I think that you are missing the point....

If 50% currently pay no income tax then any shift toward a 9-9-9 plan would automatically increase what they pay to 9% of what they spend. It will not fly.

Santorum nailed it last night...not a single hand raised.

btw...telling the average voter to go to a website to learn more about a tax plan will accomplish nothing. Cain either sells it in the face of the ridicule or he goes down with it.

I can see the obama ads now...

"To all you struggling out there to feed your kids, to pay the rent, to buy pampers for the baby...and who don't earn enough to pay income taxes...Herman Cain wants to add 9% to the cost of the food, the rent, the baby's diapers..."

When Santorum did that, I cringed. It was a brilliant move and I think it harmed Cain... a LOT!! When it happened I found myself hoping not many people were watching the debate.

Cringe or not but it showed exactly how America will react to 999. It is a deal killer and Cain will ride it right to the bottom.

“Herman Cain,
Respectfully, if analysts are making the wrong assumptions about how the 9-9-9 Plan is derived, PLEASE TELL THE GENERAL PUBLIC THE CORRECT ASSUMPTIONS TO MAKE AS TO HOW THE 9-9-9 Plan is derived. Thank you. “

Good point; also just show us the entire details. Just saying that questioners assumptions are wrong won’t get the DNC media propaganda machine off his case.

“I agree whole agree and would make a few adjustments. As a cost savings measure, make Palin EPA and DOE head. Bolton would be Sec of State. Nugent likely would not fly, but Bolton could do that. If Coulter not press secretary and if Gingrich not VP,then Gingrich press secretary.”

As a better cost savings measure, get rid of the EPA. Unless you get a filibuster proof majority, Bolton and Coulter as well as Nugent also would not pass muster.

Gingrich needs to be somewhere highly visible both before and after election; I love the way he lobs grenades at the DNC media propaganda machine (I refuse to call them news organizations, press, or journalists because they lost their credibility in that area a long time ago).

I loved that part. I said before the debate I would credit whoever went after 9-9-9 hard, and that was Santorum. Bachmann's comments on 9-9-9 were ditzy and ineffective, but Santorum really threw punches. He had derision in his voice. I thought it was just exactly what I was looking for.

He's the only one I heard give a full-throated attack on it. So I give him credit for it. As a still undecided voter, stuff like that makes a difference.

lol. I remain undecided. Based on last night's debate, I am giving a second look at Newt, who continues to perform very well in that forum, and Santorum, who was the only one who really made a full-throated attack on the idiotic 9-9-9 plan.

So when they raise it and consumer spending suddenly drops a corresponding percentage you don’t think they’ll get the clue? Lower spending would equal less revenue, the Laffer Curve pretty much dictates the maximum rate, whatever that may be (it could be lower or higher than 9%).

That’s why a NRST is not a political tool, the market regulates the rate not some establishment political hack. Income tax is taken from you/me before we even see our checks, we don’t have a choice like we would at the register.

“And A&M is a STATE school with extremely low tuition.”

Not that cheap anymore but I was going to UT a couple of years earlier than him and my tuition was $50 a semester and the student activity fee was $17.50. I’m sure his was similar. My how things have changed.

I also can’t stomach the thought of voting for Romney under any circumstances. Being an unreadable automon may be an advantage in business but even Cain has more vision, leadership and integrity. Any change in the situation and Romney would give away the store without blinking an eye.

Not only my preferred candidate Huntsman, they all need to sharpen their attacks against Mitt. Go for the kill. This strategy of wasting debates aimed at candidates that surge for a week or two is for losers.

Cain is very beatable by Obama because Cain’s supporters are not vetting him. He’s run for 2 elected offices,(2000 POTUS and 2004 Senate) and he has both given and received endorsements. He had a newspaper column and a radio show. He has a record out there. And you can bet Obama, the establishment Republicans and the MSM are going over it with a fine tooth comb.

I find it ironic that a party that calls itself Taxed Enough Already is supporting a candidate that wants to implement a new tax. Is this national sales tax going to apply to internet sales? As I understand it, this whole thing relies on scrapping the current tax code. Yet, Mr. Cain is talking about Empowerment Zones. These are authorized through the tax code. If the tax code is scrapped, does he intend to establish a new agency to administer the Zones? Personally, I am tired of giving money to areas that continually vote Democrat and then expect the rest of the nation to bail them out of their financial difficulties. Before Cain tells me about 9-9-9, he needs to tell me about cut-cut-cut.

This election, we’re not only fighting the Democrats, but also the Republicans. Remember the last minute George W. Bush DUI story? What happens if at the last minute the MSM reveals Cain was endorsed in 2004 by Joe Beasley, Operations Director of the SE Region of Rainbow/PUSH. Beasley is a man who loathes Clarence Thomas because Thomas is “black as the sun” but he appears to be comfortable endorsing Cain. How do we justify that endorsement? Oh they attend the same church and are friends. Isn’t that what Obama said about Wright and Bill Ayers?

Vet Herman Cain. Knowing where he stands on issues is not smearing him. We need to either prove, or disprove what is said about his record. GA freepers who remember the 2004 election need to weigh in. This site presents some of his record from 1999 to the present:

http://christiancitizens.org/herman_cain_for_president.html

This time the fate of the nation really does rely on getting it right.

Yeah, it is pretty funny that you prefer to trash one particular front runner while at the same time being so wishy washy about the field in general.

Good luck supporting the global warming koolaid drinker, Newt.

Yes. Seriously! This is the information that is out there. Cain supporters need to be able to counter this information with facts other than LMAO.

Look at the statement on that site that Cain financially donated to Kerrey. Research shows it was to Bob Kerrey while Cain lived in Nebraska and it was only a drop in the bucket $250 donation. But how many people will read that and make the leap that he was supporting the more well known John Kerry.

Instead of LMAO, why don’t you show the truth or untruth of the statement you highlighted. FreeRepublic shows up on google searches. Let’s make sure people looking for Herman Cain can find factual information.

I agree the Newt has gained ground.

I have opened my thinking to him but I don’t know if I can open it wide enough to want him for President. My memory cells may not be what they use to be, but I still remember him and Nancy Pelosi talking about Global Warming.

Some “optics” are just hard to forget - especially when you didn’t want to see them in the first place.
