Pretty much hit the nail on the head, but no one is listening or paying attention. People generally hear what they want to hear. They don’t want to be bothered with facts and truth. The entire Democratic Controlled Senate and Congress went along all the while, with these fiscal policies that an ever eager to spend George W. Bush was quick to sign.
Fact is, Newt has shined in every debate for straight talk. I only listened to a bit, but did catch another from him when he called the budget deal that the Repubs made STUPID.
I get the feeling he is the only candidate who deeply understands what is going on and could effectively lead the nation back from the abyss.
I know, I know - baggage and all that. Could he shed that with a public confession of all his sins? It’s going to take something that dramatic to rehabilitate him with the base.
I guess I am grasping at straws here, but the so-called front runners, including Cain just do not impress me.
They left out Michelle Bachman who Led off that line of Attack when she said it was The Community reinvestment act and the Government LOWERING borrowing Standards, and the Threatening of Banks by the Government which led to the Housung Crisis. I like what Newt Said but lets give Credit where it is Due to Bachman Who Had the Nerve to FINALLY say after 3 years of the Crap even Sarah Palin Was spewing ,its all Wall streets fault. I almost fell off the Couch when Bachman slapped that Tumulty with that answer,I think she Messed her Pants when Bachman let her have it
Newt using Pat Buchanan’s playbook? “When I take the oath of office I will turn to Bill and Hillary Clinton and say you have the right to remain silent.”
He's the smartest guy in American politics, second only to Cheney.
Newt needs to work on getting the public to warm up to him.
Dear Newt, what about the collapsing Green Bubble. You were part of that one. The US governments once again used regulations and laws to require the manufacture and use of Green Technology products that were not economically viable. And now they are flat out collapsing economically. So following the collapsed Housing Bubble we have the current collapsing Green Bubble, which now guarantees a Depression along with government debt levels that are not sustainable. Now Newt can try to repent those sins, but he might as well sit back down on the couch, because DC has no future tax base following the collapse of its housing market and its green technology market.
Newt’s biggest problem is Newt. And most people remember that he was the guy who was supposed to be such a superstar back in the 90’s and the Clintons took him out overnight. He was incredibly easy to demonize, they knocked him out without even trying. I love Newt, but we can’t afford him.
It would take one heck of a mea culpa.

Did you see Karen Tumulty’s face when Michelle Bachman summarily rejected her premise, and then Newt hammered home the simple truth?
The sad truth is that for some, it was the first time they’d heard there was some other entity to blame for the credit debacle.
Because of moments like this, I think the field is a strong field, not a weak one.
I’m for Cain, I don’t know who the winner was, but I know who the losers were-Barack Obama and the main stream media.
Newt is handicapped in this way. He has to dance to the RNC tune.
Too bad, he can't express the kind of political autonomy, individuality and undeniable commitment that some one like Cain does!! THAT'S how you get around the GOP establishment. (BYW That's also how you get around being demonized by your enemies or invalidated by the MSM... Herman knows this but Newt doesn't!!
Barney Frank carries the Lion’s share of the blame for the crisis we are now in.
Massachusetts will re-elect him next term.
“... problems with subprime mortgages did not occur until the early 2000s, long after Moses left the job at Fannie Mae in 1998...”
He merely littered the house with kindling and gasoline, but was clear of the building before it went up in flames......
“I get the feeling he is the only candidate who deeply understands what is going on and could effectively lead the nation back from the abyss.”
I agree with you.

Anywhere else this would be considered unethical and would have gotten them fired. In Congress it's business as usual.
You’re not alone in thinking that Newt is the closest thing to the real deal in the entire bunch. As you said though, the character issues abound and haunt.
