LOL, sure, just like everyone gave back the fuel surcharge when the oil dropped a few years back. It doesn’t happen. Your employer will not, no matter how good you are, end up giving you more of a raise then he’s alreayd planning on giving you. Not going to happen. Also, who is going to expain to the mom with 10 kids that she’s going to have to pay around 18% sales tax on everything she buys, and there will be 9% coming out of her paycheck instead of the 7.65% she has coming out now? Please, it’s insane. It would take 10 years to get a constitutional amendment through congress and be ratifed by the states. What do you think would happen to the 999 during those 10 years?

I always got every raise I deserved. The 7.65% raise would be a cinch. You must not be working for a smart businessman.

As for sales tax going up? My wife scream s bloody murder when our local sales tax goes up 0.25%. When our income tax goes up, she does not notice it. Ask your wife/husband.

Only people in places like the City of Chicago pay more than 9% sales tax today.

No need for a Constitutional amendment, either:

13th Amendment: "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."

Other Constitutional provisions regarding taxes

Article I, Section 2, Clause 3:

Representatives and direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers...

Article I, Section 8, Clause 1:

The Congress shall have power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises...but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States...

Article I, Section 9, Clause 4:

No Capitation, or other direct, Tax shall be laid, unless in proportion to the Census or Enumeration herein before directed to be taken.
