The formula for Republicans to win elections is to run Conservatives as the lead in the ticket, while relegating Moderates to the VP slot.

Let's look at the results:

1976- Ford (moderate)-Dole (then more Conservative)...LOSS

1980- Reagan (Conservative)- Bush, Sr. (Moderate)...WIN

1988- Bush (Reagan's heir as conservative)- Quayle (moderate) WIN

1992- Bush (moderate after going back on his "no new taxes pledge")- Quayle (moderate) LOSS

1996- Dole (Moderate)- Kemp (supposedly Conservative) LOSS

2000- Bush, Jr. (Supposedly conservative)- Cheyney (moderate) WIN

2004- Bush, Jr. (Still supposedly conservative)- Cheyney (moderate) WIN

2008- McCain (Democrat-wannabe) - Palin (conservative) LOSS

If Cain is heading the ticket, we'll win. If he or some other conservative is backing the ticket of Mitt, we lose.

Dick Cheney, a name you are incapable of spelling, was a moderate?

Your point is absolutely correct, but I might add to this one:

1976- Ford (moderate)-Dole (then more Conservative)...LOSS

The conservative Reagan was also a big part of that choice--he DID with the Texas primary.
