This is really the heart of it. Pharaohnic Egypt was a full-employment economy, as are Pol Pot Cambodia and the Kim family's North Korea in our own day. Similarly, the cotton gin destroyed thousands of full-time slave jobs.

Yeah but think of all the people you are putting out of work by allowing companies to use those job-killing shovels. Hire 100 people to dig with their hands and 100 more to be shovel police/fingernail inspectors (proportionally adjusted by race, of course, to reflect our diverse society). Then Ellison might think you have a plan.
