Great story. Often there is nothing to fear. And once one shows fear in a touch and go situation like that, it is akin to blood in the water for the sharks. Best to just remain cool, smile at everyone, yet remain firm and in command and project confidence, and let them think you might have a little something in the glove compartment for self defense, and by and large people would not generally “f” with you in those neighborhoods. Pat Buchanan once related a similar story on the old Crossfire when he got lost taking home the late, not-so-great liberal Tom Braden - his co-host. They accidentally ventured into a Washington ghetto and Pat practically had to sedate old Tom. He told the story with great relish and malice aforethought. So typical of sheltered libs.
