While there are National Guard troops on the 2000 mile border with Mexico, only 250 of the 1200 are deployed along the 1200 miles of Texas' border. Perry has repeatedly asked for more -publicaly saying we need 3000 troops for Texas. Read this news report from a year ago. He also pushed the Federal government to allow the military practice to their skills with unmanned Predator aircraft along our border ("They’ve gotta practice somewhere.”)

For once I think I have to agree with CW. Rick and Dubya share some Texas cultural background and some basic attitudes (thank God), but Bush had to go through all that pansy-ass Ivy League mentoring and hectoring and whiteshoe bigotry at home and at school, before he could get with Laura and go back to being real people (and overcome his drinking).
Very different life trajectories, very different family and environmental influences, very different edumacashuns and political careers.
Then there are all the fidelity and orientation accusations that are still out there, that Perry has dealt with via lawyers and closed-door meetings instead of candor.
I think Laura Bush and Anita Perry are probably a lot more similar than their men.
