Your theory makes some sense, because blank CD ROMS are very inexpensive, while the burglars didn't touch the expensive computer and accessories. Hmmm...

And the kids say they broke in specifically to steal 'empty' CD ROMS? What made them expect to find a huge stack of CDs in the first place? Sorta like stealing paper plates and leaving the sterling silverware alone.

You know why those kids stole a whole stack of CD-ROMs?:

Because, gosh, you can hardly find them for sale anymore at Best Buy.

If he'd left his stack of old 1.44mb 3.5" floppy discs laying around, those burglars would have cleared him out of those too! They're rarer than hen's teeth now!

Right: They didn't go looking for guns and jewelry in all the likely places, instead they took the clumsy to conceal stack of CD-ROMs and left the electronics behind.

This story stinks. Oh well, the ends justify the means, I guess.
