Energy {Solyndra] Loan Guarantee Official Resigns

The head of the Energy Department’s loan guarantee office, which approved the ill-fated $528 million loan to Solyndra, will leave his job on Friday.

The department said that the official, Jonathan Silver, had said in July that he would leave soon after Sept. 30, which was the deadline for approving the loans financed by the Recovery Act. However, two loan guarantee programs remain in place, one for manufacturing advanced vehicles, the other for “innovative clean energy technologies.”

In a statement he gave the House Energy and Commerce Committee dated Sept. 23, Mr. Silver gave no indication he was leaving and, in fact, cast the job as only partly completed. “We are making a serious contribution to our clean energy goals, and we look forward to continuing that trend,” he said, noting that partly under his leadership, the office had increased to more than 80 employees from 16.

In a statement, the Energy secretary, Steven Chu, credited Mr. Silver for having assembled “a truly outstanding team” and said, “because of my absolute confidence in Jonathan and the outstanding work he has done, I would welcome his continued service at the department, but I completely understand the decision he has made.”

Mr. Silver arrived in November 2009. Solyndra received conditional approval for the loan eight months earlier, and final approval two months earlier.

On Thursday, Mr. Obama defended the concept of loan guarantees, and the Solyndra loan in particular.

“The idea is pretty straightforward: If we are going to be able to compete in the 21st century, then we’ve got to dominate cutting-edge technologies, we’ve got to dominate cutting-edge manufacturing,” he said. “Clean energy is part of that package of technologies of the future that have to be based here in the United States if we’re going to be able to succeed.”

...and on Monday will probably begin his new job lobbying the Energy Department for some other "green" technology BS company. Washington corruption is like a merry-go-round for educated adults who aren't capable of doing anything productive.

More like premeditated treachery.

This one guy signed off on a half-billion dollar taxpayer loss for a long-tanking company.

And now he walks right out the door, with a pension and a smile, a traitor to his own people.

This is the level of crime that it takes the Bible properly address.
