On Wedesday, we took a closer look at Herman Cain, who is spiking in recent polls and taking a lot of his newfound support from Texas Guv Rick Perry. Flavor of the week, as Sarah Palin refers to her pal, Herb Caen.
But Herb would trade in all those temporal poll numbers for what Perry has: Lots of cold, hard campaign contributions. Perry will report $17 mi miiiiiiiiiiiiiilllion in contributions over the past three months. Thats $17 million in 49 days and THAT keeps Perry as an A-list candidate who can afford (for now) bad debate performances and a near-endless stream of bad stories. All those California fundraisers surely helped. Hes even swiped some Mitt Romney donors in the Golden State.
His closest competition: Romney, who will announce between $11 and $13 million before the federal campaign finance forms are due Oct. 15.
Next up: Dr. Rep. Ron Paul winner of the California GOP straw poll who took in $8 million from 100,000-plus donors or five times as many as Perry.
And what about Herb? Well, a new CBS poll out Wednesday shows that hes tied for first place with Romney at 17 percent apiece. Whos in first place? Undecided at 18 percent. His fundraising? Uh .still waiting on that. Shh. Dont interrupt Herb: Hes on book tour.
So what does that get him? Hes got little operation in Iowa, the first caucus state. If he doesnt get off the ground there, its going to be that much tougher in New Hampshire. And you cant retail-campaign in a massive, populous state like Florida, which comes up shortly thereafter. If hes serious about this leader-of-the-free-world job interview, Herb needs to put down the book, pick up the phone and raise some cash.

If Cain does sell out for the VP slot, let him sell out to Perry.
In the final analysis its VOTES that count. (Or who counts the votes)
Ford spent hundreds of millions promoting the Edsel. The simple fact is that when you have an incredible bad product, no amount of money will move the needle.
My guess is, at this point, the same Establishment bastards who are contributing to Romney’s campaign are ALSO contributing to Perry. The goal is to keep a single viable conservative from getting too far up there to challenge their boy Romney.
Plain and simple.
Wow, now there’s a great reason for supporting a candidate, he’s got money!
Perry is still an Open-Borders fraud.
Or their boy Perry.
We can have any flavor we want as long as it is RINO.
Why does everyone in the MSM seem to think that Rick Perry is just going to buy this nomination?
It’s all relative.
Perry spent $2 million on the straw poll in Florida.
Cain spent $2500 on the straw poll in Florida.
Given his history, I believe Cain will be able to do more with his $2 mil than Perry with his $17 mil.
It was the message, and the man, not the money that is making people sit up and take notice.
If mony could buy elections, Ross Perot would have been a two-term president, not Bill Clinton.
Why does Cain need so much money, since everyone’s voting for him anyway?
No question Perry is better connected to the establishment and their money, but Cain has the Tea Party, or a good deal of it. Soon Cain will be squared off with Romney, and the rest of the Tea Party will get behind him.
Some of Sarah’s supporters will need a few days to shake off the disappointment, but they are in this fight to save America, and that will help Herman Cain.
LOL.
Bingo
I assume you are referring to Obama
My tea party congressman was elected despite raising less than half the money raised by the democrat incumbent.
Herman just got my 20 bucks.
