The Sea Shepherd has become increasingly successful in recent years in disrupting the Japanese whaling, last summer forcing Japan's whaling fleet to head home early, and led Japanese whalers to obtain only 17 percent of their whaling quota.
Japanese government on Tuesday announced the research whaling program will go ahead later in December, and there are reports that an extra 27 million U.S. dollars worth of security will be added to the whaling fleet.

When you are in International Waters interfering with other vessels you are a pirate.
Japan should send out a Destroyer with their whaling fleet to protect the fleet.
Or the Whalers should put a harpoon in the Bridge of the attacking vessel.
Thank you for pointing that out. They are terrorist violating international laws. That program should be taken off tv. Democrat pirates is all they are and the near support they sometimes get here on FR is distressing.
I don't like "hippies" either but I don't see any conservative volunteers.. We should support the defense of scarce and intelligent creatures.
So its based on need? Guess that would rule out porterhouse steaks and singlemalt scotch.
You support a slippery slope but you probably don’t see it. Some people feel the same way about squirrels and inhibit human freedoms via their beliefs.
What the enviroextremists are doing is illegal and incredibly dangerous to all parties. If they wanted to stop whaling then the approach would be to use the donated millions to hire a Japanese psychologist and a Japanese marketing firm. In 20 years eating whale meet would be SO uncool that no Japanese would do it. No market, no whaling.
But this isnt about the whales. Its about forcing somebody else to convert and conform to the enviroextremists views. Its about control and fighting a just war; and protesting. Its about raising money and providing a source of smug moral superiority. The Sea Shepards captain, crew, enablers and apologists are conducting their form of warfare for the enjoyment of the agony (mostly imagined) that it costs others.
The Japanese should employ a faster more stoutly built ship to play bumpies with the Sea Shepard and herd the Sea Shepard away from Japanese ships.
Having said that, I believe whales are as intelligent as we are and I dont think humans have any right to kill them. But these are not issues to be negotiated or fought over. If somebody really objects, use the millions collected to quietly change Japanese culture behind the scenes.
You really think whales are as intelligent as humans? Wow! The democrats have succeeded beyond their wildest indoctrination dreams!
MMMmmmm....
Whale.....
Yummmmm....
;-)
I would pay to see that.
If they were that intelligent, they would talk amongst themselves and decide to swim south out of the whale hunting zones till the season was over.....
“I have no idea why there is so much hostility against the Sea Shepherds”
Because they are pirates flouting international law who endanger hundreds of lives while they do it.
Yes, and the Japanese are flouting international law to hunt whales. The Japanese advantage has been to bribe as many officials as possible in the International Whaling Commission to keep from being charged with their crime.
The whole “international law” is a farce. You actually support the “International Whaling Commission” which is part of a clear globalist agenda.
Their agenda has nothing to do with the whales but about control of people. But you’re right it is a shame that people kill animals to eat. I mean we are the only species on the plant which takes life in order to eat. Right?
Our diet should be limited to TOFU and water, that way no animals are hurt.
Actually they don't. Australia, France, Great Britain, New Zealand, and Norway recognise each other's claims to Antarctic waters, noone else does.
If the whales are that smart, wouldn’t they be harder to harvest?
Comparing an intelligent and rare creature like a whale to all other potential food sources is simple-minded and I suspect that you are aware of that.
Unlike us, they aren’t aggressive. Their primary vulnerability is the need to come up to the surface and breathe. If you had spent any time at all at sea, you would certainly have seen whales and appreciated their qualities.
They aren’t rare.
So you say. Some populations are doing well. Others are still threatened. All the same, shouldn’t we move to protect very intelligent creatures from the law-breakers?
So the international community that you worship says.
I do agree we should protect the intelligent creatures from the law breakers, which is why the Sea Shepard pirates should be blown out of the water.
