What Perrys fundraising shows, his backers argue, is that hes the only conservative candidate in the race with the resources to compete against Mitt Romney over the long haul. In other words, he can spend his way out of his current predicament.
And while Perry has likely lost his chance to run away with the Republican presidential nomination, his eye-opening cash haul collected in just 49 days suggests he may yet be able to wrest it from Romney in an expensive, bruising nomination fight that drags on into spring.
He is going to have the resources to run a comprehensive and lengthy campaign, said Mississippi Republican National Committeeman Henry Barbour, a Perry supporter. Its clear that he would have raised more than $17 million if not for the loss of momentum that happened in Florida, which makes the $17 million more impressive.
(snip)
If the Perry team is correct and Romney has already disqualified himself with too many GOP primary voters, theres only one other candidate in the race who looks capable of cobbling together the right set of votes to claim the nomination.
Were 90 days out from the first ballot being cast and I dont know whether Romney can seal the deal, said Jeff Ballabon, an influential GOP fundraiser supporting Perry. But $17 million in seven weeks from 20,000 in 50 states just said loud and clear that Perry can.

Have you got me confused with someone else? What “fault” am I not taking responsibility for? You love to lob general accusations at me, but run when pushed for specifics. Grow up, son.
Oh, I didn’t say he “is” better. I’m saying he will get better. If he doesn’t, you’re right. He’s out.
Why I Support Rick Perry
An excellent synopsis of why those of us who support Rick Perry really, really like him.

PS, DRey, it’s nice to see you back. :)
I don’t think anyone (but maybe you) thinks he’s not serious about his campaign and his election. That he took the last debate for granted is a foregone conclusion. He is not going to do it again.
>> It’s cute to imagine the pizza man in the White House, but the truth is it is never going to happen.
Dude, WTF... “cute”?
You’re only winding up my enthusiasm for the guy. Maybe that’s your plan... eh?
I’m glad to be of service, Gene!
No doubt WOULD have lost points if he had.
” So typical of not only Slick Willard and Zero and their supporters, but of La Raza Ricks, too. “ <<<
Whoa, there pardner. How many of these fine, high principled candidates ever had a Hispanic majority and La Raza among their constituency to contend with? Reality is a heck of a deal and Rick was dealt it. The Ace in that hand is that Hispanic voting block will not be with Obama, but with Rick. Rick’s got it and the rest want it. Some realities have to matter and this is one that does.
He don’t have time to get better. January will be here before you know it. There hasn’t been as polished a speaker as Herman Cain running for President since Ronald Regan.
I AM NOT SAYING HERMAN CAIN IS RONALD REAGAN! I am saying that Herman Cain is of the same caliber when it comes to making speeches especially speeches that move people.

Think he can do that again and run for President?
Sure he has time. He’ll be better by Monday’s debate...come hide with me and we’ll watch.
“You Fangirls keep telling yourselves that as Jethero Bodine keeps sinking in the polls.”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA
Drey is not a dude, Gene, she’s a lady.
And it is cute to imagine the pizza man in the White House. It’s cute to imagine you in the White House too. But neither will happen, so Drey’s right.
Sooner or later Perry will open mouth and reinsert foot. I know I’m being heartless, but its the truth. ;-)
Don’t play dumb. You’ve let your worship for a cheap politician blind you to reason and because he’s losing, you decide to attack everyone else.
I just looked and your from Texas. When I made the comment “I don’t know where you’re from, but Perry’s election record is not one to be proud of.”, that was meant for somebody outside of Texas who had no awareness of Perry’s elections. Being that you’re from Texas, I’m shocked that you would consider his gubernatorial elections something to be proud of. 39% was dang good in 2006 against a heavily divided field, but it’s still not something to be proud of since it means 61% of voters voted for somebody other than Perry.
