I believe that your citation of Fred Thompson was not apposite for the reasons I stated.
Now you discuss Nixon in these terms:

Which confirms and emphasizes my argument concerning Nixon and I believe his career is informative as Fred Thompson's was not. Merely to repeat a position is not to buttress it.
It remains to be seen how Sarah Palin proves her ability to shape politics and policy. It is undeniable that she has an extraordinary magnetism for a vast swath of the Republican conservative movement. She does not fill rooms she feels stadia and park grounds.
you might well be proved correct as you insist that this magnetism will evaporate. But in the focused conservative community that will have great leverage in future elections and on future policy, there is every reason to believe that she will maintain her level of influence. By the way, I did not say that her endorsement of a presidential candidate in the primary would be decisive nor do I believe it will be.

You have also misconstrued what I did say, re Mr.Nixon.
I knew Mr. Nixon, I know what he did and how he re-rose to prominence, and Palin is no Nixon. What books can/will she write now....WHY I DIDN'T RUN IN, HOW TO STRING PEOPLE ALONG, and/or WHY I'M STILL RELEVANT ?
Look at the replies from others,who said what I did ...: I DON'T CARE WHAT SHE SAYS NOW. This is coming from her past ardent supporters. My opinion carries weight, because it has been confirmed by others, all on their own, without any influence from me.
She has lost much of that "magnetism" you speak of, by bowing out;especially so late in the game. We waited and waited and waited, and now this?
