I’m sticking with Cain.
The following is a reader review of his book:
I didn’t grow up wanting to be president of the United States. I grew up po’, which is even worse than being poor. My American dream entailed working hard and making $20,000 a year, but I surpassed that goal and became a corporate CEO, a regional chairman of the Federal Reserve, a president of the Restaurant Association, an author, and an Atlanta talk show host before retiring at sixty-five on cruise control. And then I became a presidential aspirant. But a strange thing happened on my way to cruise control: The country got off-track.
From that, I gather that Cain is running for the right reason -— a sincere calling to elevate the condition of the country and serve its people.
Then Cain explains how he developed his character. Most of it, he says, came from observing his father. He explains how his dad left impoverished rural Georgia at age 18, hitchhiking to Ohio to find work in a factory. His dad then returned to Atlanta, working three jobs as a barber, chauffer, and janitor; his mother worked as a maid. Cain says:
And both of our parents taught us not to think that the government owed us something. They didn’t teach us to be mad at this country. They would always say to us: “If you want something, just work hard enough, focus on it, and guess what? You can make it happen!” And Dad made things happen. One day in the summer before I started the eighth grade, he came home and said to us: “Get in the car; we’re going for a ride.” He drove us to a suburb west of Atlanta, pulled up in front of a six-room, all-brick house on Albert Street, and said, “This is our new home.” He had fulfilled his dream of being able to buy a “whole house.”
Cain explains that his dad was so well thought of that he became the private chauffer of the legendary Coca Cola CEO Robert Woodruff. Woodruff gifted him Coca Cola stock. Herman watched his dad prosper through integrity, work, and investment. He describes a man whose life was well balanced between work, love of family, religious values, and desire for success -— a man who started out as an impoverished, uneducated Black kid in rural Georgia at a time when society didn’t do Blacks any favors.

I don't buy into this. To me, if you can turn around two major businesses that were on the verge of collapse, you have the ability to run the gov't. When a reporter complained he doesn't have political experience, I really liked Cain's answer: "92% of those in Washington are in their second or later term of office. How's that workin' out for you?" I think he's up to the job.
If Palin gets in I don’t think Perry can even win the Texas Primary. If she does not I will vote Cain.
Or learning anything new? Or reading something that might threaten their closely-held beliefs?
It’s a wonderment, that’s for sure.
Look, if Cain winds up being the guy I’ll back him. If Newt, Bachman, Santorum...pretty much whoever winds up being the guy (gal), I’ll back them.
But the poison and lack of civility at this stage of the campaign really, truly stuns me.
To each his own, I guess.
Unfortunately for the Perry camp, Conservative think our politics, we do not feel them.
Where is the Perry plan for Tax reform? Government Regulation? Health Care Reform? etc etc etc
Perry needs to move away from this "Cult of Personality" what-a-great-guy I am campaigning style and actually take some stands on the issues.
Because I live in Texas and have experience first hand “buyer’s remorse”.
That is, Perry’s saying one thing and governing something different.
he runs as a staunch conservative, governs as a big government lib.
This opinion is not based on anything other than having been there, done that, as in voted for Perry and are disappointed.
Where I am from, if you smash your thumb in a hammer a couple of times, you try to avoid making the same mistake, even if someone paints a rosy picture for you.
Sarah isn’t running, is she?
Yes. And some of the anti-Perry people post in this manner as well.
Perry/Cain would be next guess.
The Republican Establishment is in for a rude awaking!
“I think there are a lot of crazy people on this site who are ruthlessly trashing Perry even though they also despise Romney.”
you’re right. It is better to build up your candidate than attack the others.
“Come over to The Palin Side. We have cookies!”
But Christie’s side has doughnuts !! and neither is in the race.
Sorry couldn’t resist
+1
Great photo and even better caption!
“But the poison and lack of civility at this stage of the campaign really, truly stuns me.”
Not only the level of hate against candidates but also hate against fellow freepers who happen to support the ‘wrong’ candidate with all kinds of personal attacks and accusations of conspiracy.
Wait...”short on facts”?
It appears you haven’t read the article that is the subject of this thread.
It may not be all the facts in the universe that might be presented related to the campaign...but it’s got facts.
And I don’t “love” my Governor. In general, I AM proud of him. And so far, I think he’s the best choice for POTUS out of the current group of potentials.
“What a great guy I am”? If you’ll notice, there are very few taking more beatings than Perry on his stances. And, with the exception of his awkward statement about “heartlessness”, he really hasn’t changed his stances.
So, I don’t think he’s just doing the “what a great guy I am” thing. I think he’s putting his stances out there, and come hell or high water, he’s stuck with them. So far.
And I find that refreshing.
Exactly. Except without the $17M and other advantages.
I did read it. She has her mind made up and so do I (for now).
