Those words were spoken today by Georgette Mosbacher, RNC Finance Co-Chair and huge GOP fundraiser, after Chris Christies announcement. The we is all the big bundlers, fundraisers, and money folks who have been sitting on the sidelines waiting for the field to be set and that quote represents the coalescing around Mitt Romney that is expected to happen rather quickly now. Mosbacher went on to say:
I think tomorrow, well be contacting one another and probably put something together with Romney And I would say that the race is now Romney and Obama. Quite frankly, the enthusiasm wasnt there at the outset. Hes less conservative than a lot of us would like. However, our first and foremost goal is to defeat Obama. And we do believe Romney, in terms of independents, will be a strong candidate. We will coalesce behind him now the time has come to get behind him Tomorrow Ill be on the phone all day. Quite frankly, itll be easier, because now we know who it is who will be our nominee. So we will pull our Rolodexes out and get to work.
Fellow bundler and sideline-sitter John Catsimatidis added, Im going to go with Mitt Romney. I dont think Perry has it in him to do it. Hes a lot better than Sarah Palin, but not a lot lot better.
Ouch.
In related news, Romney also scored another major fundraiser from the Draft Christie movement: Ken Langone. Langone is the founder of Home Depot and is described as a titan in the political money scene. He backed Rudy Giuliani in 2008, helping Giuliani out raise the other candidates. There is evidence that a great deal of the money that had sat on the sidelines so far in this race will now fall into Romneys coffers.
Rick Perry, for his part, got the endorsement of another Draft Christie member: Gary Kirke, a west Iowa investor and casino owner who had also been sitting on the sidelines until this afternoon.
ahahaahaa
I hope I can remember that!
I work for all the confused the readers of Free Republic that wonder why you have once again IGNORED and REFUSED to respond to my question directly to you regarding his lie to America about AlGore’s radicalism and his knowing support thereof....while trying to divert the issue away from Rick Perry’s integrity YET AGAIN.
That would mean a 3rd Party run.
That would mean Obama 2012 -2016.
Who do YOU work for?
How did you get THAT from what Lenhart said?
Are you being deliberately obtuse or do you need to go to bed or did you get up too early?
I await your answer to that SPECIFIC question. Then well get to the many others you refuse to address.
It doesn't look like you're going to get your answer. Surprised? :-)
Do you remember all the well funded GOP candidates beaten by the TEA Party in 10? They did it. So do you believe that did not actually happen?
What I am saying is think about the whole situation logically and in light of whats actually happening out there. Don’t buy in to the ‘can’t be done’ BS of the MSM, when not only CAN it be done, it HAS been done...to historic effect.
He also gave a “scoop” to a prominent journalist friend of mine that he was throwing his hat into the ring for Mayor (to replace Guiliani). My friend went with the scoop, Catsimatidis either chickened out or never had any real plans to run for Mayor, and my friend got burned in one of the major NYC papers.
Creep!
I think it will be done—by Palin.
(Remember: when the tea party ran bad candidates in 2010, they lost.)
"next-in-line candidate
"
That has ALWAYS been the Achilles Heel of the party.
That's the main reason I got out of 'active politics'. Work like mad for the right candidate only to have the establishment put up the 'next-in-line" and then watch us lose the election.
I'm a tired ole great gramma now, but will consider getting active again if the Candidate from the People throws her hat in.
Interesting.
“It doesn’t look like you’re going to get your answer. Surprised? :-) “
No more so than the last couple dozen answers she has yet to provide. In fact, I have YET to see her take a shot at answering anyone presenting her with historical, documented fact.
I question why such a person is on a conservative website at all. People knowing they are in the right do not duck, dodge and spin. They answer with confidence.
;)
I don’t think this Algore thing is a big deal. It’s not like he supported Algore in 2000.
Perry was a Democrat because that was the place to be in Texas once upon a time. Remember that the Democrat party once stood for state’s rights.
Algore was the most conservative Democrat (or at least a southern democrat who would be more sympathetic to the needs of the South) so he decided he’d rather have him win the nomination instead of some other liberal.
This is you....
This is us....
You treat us like second class citizens, you are embarassed by us. The fact is we are embarassed by you. This guy in the rain is the real America. The sad part of it is you might not even hire him to fix your toliet if he was a plumber, and if you did, you might play nicee nicee but it ain't in your heart, really. We are sick of your king making RINO-Republican-ism, statism in drag, we want a smaller Gov't period, not a tweek of Obamacare. We are here, deal with us, we are not going anywhere and we ain't gonna take you shoving that RINO Romney down our throats.
We want our country back...
Who the heck do you think you are....
I’ll be working hard for her as well.
One thing that can be said about the Democrat plutocrats—they are at least not so stupid as to crow about already knowing who their candidate will be so early in a contested race.
Only the GOP has such openly insufferable and stupid “sponsors”.
Gore got a rating of “8” at the time on one of the conservative rating scales. That’s Babs Boxer territory.
I use Gore to point out that Perry refused to tell the truth. He could have easily said “I was a Dem then and I don’t believe those things now...here’s my eco record”
But he didn’t. He intentionally lied and tried to spin. That speaks to his integrity as a candidate and as a person.
No they don't. And the fact that Perry supporters find themselves doing so and often is quite telling, really.
If Romney’s the nominee, America’s over. Without a strong, principled Conservative President in 2012, there is no way the nation is ever going to stop the slide into Socialism.
We all might as well pack it in at that point.
