Can the House Judiciary Committee go ahead anyway even tho pukeface denies it ?
Obama is on sticky wicket now really, refusing an SP would seriously look guilty and ratchet it up. Knowing Obama, Holder is going to be shafted and quickly.
I don’t like special prosecutors. Congress should just do its job and impeach him. They can have it done within two months.

That right there is the key question. My guess is that there is ‘zero’ chance Obama will allow an independent investigation, forcing a stand-off.
Will Issa take it to impeachment? (are there other remedies?)
No. By law, a special counsel is appointed by the Attorney General, with the approval of the President.
Smith and Issa both know this. The request is going nowhere. But, evidently, they believed it was time to play this card.
And I don't doubt they have a Plan B in mind...
