So what is the one simple question that supposedly causes people to “do a 180”?

The general idea is that Hitler was allowed to kill the Jews legally. He was allowed to do all sorts of evil legally. Abortion is legal... therefore, do you support it? (that is a general answer and I saw it on Youtube. Most of the people the interviewer talks with support a “woman’s right to choose” and they change their mind about the morality of the question. It is using simple analogy/comparison to challenge mainstream ideology that “It isn’t right for me but may be right for someone else since it is legal”. I am computer stupid so I don’t know how to post a link to the Youtube video of it. Perhaps a more computer intelligent FReeper can assist?

After all of the buildup and foundation, the question is:
"It's okay to kill a baby in the womb when..."

It's worth watching and very powerful.

All Ya gotta do is copy and paste the address bar.

Just make sure there are no HTML tags in you post. Just post the link, and nothing else, and it’ll be “hot.”

I find it astonishing that this argument is persuasive. I've used it for decades mostly to little effect. Most people simply refuse to acknowledge the kindred principle between what Hitler did and what Abortion is. I recall in one debate regarding threats to Abortionists, I asked the person if they thought it would be reasonable to shoot someone operating the gas chambers of Auschwitz? They said "that's completely different."

I said "one murder factory is very much like another."

talking theoretically about death camps and abortion mills is a lot different than seeing the actual images - Comfort is amazing in his relentlessness to spread the Gospel. I congratulate him in this effort.

The movie is so powerful and while yes, there is a simple question, there is a lot of prep before that question was sprung. The movie presents scenarios that make the listener actually think past the rhetoric. I think it takes you past the “party line” cliches and makes you think about what is actually happening. It is so well done.

Totally agree with you. Maybe the difference today is that most young people (in the film) didn’t even know who Hitler was.
When they learned of the atrocities, they could relate it to the killing of innocent life at home.

I thought it was a powerful film.

Maybe it is how the interviewer presented the information. Perhaps the younger people were more open to really think about it and then change their mind. I don’t know if people who possibly stood by their pro-abortion stance was removed from the video... wouldn’t matter to me though. The fact that people (who were 100% positive that abortion was okay) changed their minds was powerful. I have always thought that if you could change the mind of one person in ten then progress had been made (perhaps not statistically great progress but maybe that one person could change the mind of another)

Sorry; I think the video is just a gimmick. IMO, what it shows is that people are weak-minded, shallow, and easily manipulated because they have no reasoning skills at all. As soon as the moviemakers are gone, the same people can be re-shaped to another opinion. They are like cushions — they bear the imprint of the last person who’s sat on them.

In any case, most people make decisions like this based not on moral principles but their own self-interest. They know the unborn child is a human being with a right to life, and get the abortion all the same. “It’s either you or me,” they figure. “And it’s not gonna be me.” So they harden their hearts and choose evil with their eyes wide open. I’ve seen it happen.

I just watched the movie. He seems to be quick on the uptake, though I doubt the sincerity of many of the conversions to the pro-life position. I think he is doing something that has been needing to be done, (spreading the word) but I will be surprised if this argument gets much traction with the stubborn types.

I came across this quote (Unknown as far as I know) a couple of weeks ago, and I thought it made an excellent linkage to the underlying theory of not only the Holocaust, but Slavery as well.

"Roe v. Wade is cut from the same cloth as Dred Scott v. Sanford: Certain classes of people are property."

People are often moved by powerful emotions which are often stirred by powerful images and thoughts. I also think Comfort has the advantage of arguing with people not inured from the comparison by facing it before. *I* have argued with countless people who seemingly couldn't see any connection to what the Nazis did with what Abortionists do. I even point out that Joseph Mengele, the Auschwitz "Angel of Death", became an Abortionist after he fled Germany.

Not the slightest discernible impact.

I think you are right. Not knowing who Hitler was, and seemingly not knowing about the millions he killed and how and why, they were not prepared for the shock of his atrocities, and they were also not prepared to argue that abortion isn't the same thing. I hope he actually convinced some people, but i'm afraid after they associate with more liberal people, they will reassert their original opinions. It is one thing to admit to something under the spotlight, it is quite another to accept it in your heart.

I thought it was a powerful film.

I hope it convinces a lot of people. Have you seen this?

I fear that it was edited to demonstrate more success, or perhaps he just didn't encounter any militants who certainly would not let him sneak up on them like that. I hope the video becomes very successful regardless.
