Russia's Putin says wants to build "Eurasian Union"
Mon, Oct 3 2011
By Gleb Bryanski
MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said he wants to bring ex-Soviet states into a "Eurasian Union" in an article which outlined his first foreign policy initiative as he prepares to return to the Kremlin as the country's next president.
Putin said the new union would build on an existing Customs Union with Belarus and Kazakhstan which from next year will remove all barriers to trade, capital and labor movement between the three countries.
"We are not going to stop there and are setting an ambitious goal -- to achieve an even higher integration level in the Eurasian Union," Putin wrote in an article which will be published in Izvestia newspaper on October 4.
Putin said last month he would run in the March 2012 presidential election and his current public approval ratings show that he is set to win.
Putin's initiative comes as Russia nears the end of its 18-year-old negotiations to join the World Trade Organization. In the article Putin made no secret of his skepticism about the global trade watchdog.
"The process of finding new post-crisis global development models is moving forward with difficulty. For example, the Doha round (of international trade talks) has practically stopped. There are objective difficulties inside the WTO," he wrote.

Something like a 10 nation coalition that would pursue the extermination of Israel, maybe?

The common thread of all globalism is the consolidation of power and stature in the few.

And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord God, that my fury shall come up in my face. For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel; so that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground. And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord GOD: Every mans sword shall be against his brother. And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the LORD. (Ezekiel 38:18-24)

Cool.. Hey, let’s form a union. Then we will need an army to defend it. Then we will have to get rid of our political enemies. Then we will need territory to grow food and produce durable goods. Then we will need to expand into other continents so that we can bring them under the umbrella of the “union.”
Seen this on television. Believe on the history channel. Think it was about Lenin.

Of course he does, he's Russian. The only thing that took the Russian desire for such an empire off the table was that single lifetime long spasm of stupidity called the “Soviet Union”. Had Russia not collapsed they'd have been in control of large parts of what was the Ottoman empire anyway and probably wouldn't have fallen apart for a second time in the 1990s. One thing for sure, the Europeans wouldn't have gotten the blanket protection that cost the US taxpayer so much over the past sixty years.
Once Europe gets over their current stupidity and foreordained financial collapse, they can put the alliances of the past back in place and alternate between tussles with one another and with Russia over who will be the top dog like they used to. Just as it often has in the past, it all comes down to how preoccupied the Ottoman Empire is with expanding itself throughout the Muslim world rather than wrangling over Western or Northern borders.

When I read this, the first thing that came to my history-laden mind was “The Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere” of 1940. Tyrants always need both a boogeyman and a need (”Lebensraum”) to keep the proletariat in a calmer mood.

Most Russians have regarded the collapse of the USSR as a tragedy. Still, there are no plans to bring together the CIS states into a new political union. A Eurasian Union would be an economic common market like the EU. But there’s no real appetite to run things from Moscow. If reintegration occurs, it will be an evolutionary process that could decades. Any attempt to reconstitute a Greater Russian state would be a disaster. Russian conservatives in United Russia are aware of how far they want to go. First and foremost is the preservation of Russian statehood. This takes precedence over any future union.

You're close. I think this the run-up to the war of Gog and Magog, starring Vlad Putin as Gog. He and Iran will join forces, I believe, and make a grab for the whole Middle East.
