I quit smoking years ago - three packs a day Camel straights. Now I smell cigarette smoke and I have two reactions. One will be “boy does that smell good - you don’t mind if I stand downwind of you?”. That is usually on a cold, snowy or raining day.

My other reaction will be “Man! I can’t believe I used to smoke - that smells terrible!” Most often in a bar, or when the neighbor’s stale cigar smoke wafts into one of our open windows.

25 more years though and I can start smoking again! (That was the only way I would quit - that it wasn’t going to be forever!).

I'll go out smoking. (cremation)

I'm not saying smoking is a good thing, or that I would encourage my grandbabies to take up the habit. But the great Nick O' Teen, has been very good to me through many long nights of coding.

Caffine as well.

I don't intend to abandon either until I get the final call from the Big Guy.

And I don't care if it hare-lips the governor.

I used to try to be polite about it, but when the anti-smokers got so obnoxious....

Well, as the song says "Anything you can do, I can do better."

I quit a little over 3 years ago and I have the same reactions that you mentioned, sometimes it smells good and sometimes bad.
