Hank Williams Jr. Pulled From ‘Monday Night Football’ After Comments Made on Fox News By Alex Weprin on October 3, 2011 6:02 PM

Musician Hank Williams Jr.–who doubles as the voice of ESPN’s “Monday Night Football”–has been pulled from tonight’s broadcast as a result of statements he made on Fox News early this morning.

On “Fox & Friends,” Williams said this of the so-called “golf summit,” which saw President Obama and VP Biden playing golf with House Speaker Boehner and Ohio Governor John Kasich:

“Come on! Come on! It would be like Hitler playing golf with Netanyahu!” adding “They’re the enemy! Obama! And Biden! Are you kiddin’ me, the Three Stooges!”

Imagine that...Hank Jr. is not a proponent of socialism nor marxism, and willing to tell it like it is. I’m stuned I tell ya, just plain stuned.

I didn’t miss Hank Jr tonight. I refused to watch.
I haven’t watched the other ESPN garbage since they entrapped Rush and then fired him. Football is a huge part of my life and I wish there was an alternative to ESPN.
They’ll probably hire Lady Gaga to sing the open. Life sucks.

"Just a matter of a private company and private organization making a politically motivated decision for Democrats and against Republicans when they are supposed to be an apolitical network."

There, fixed it for ya. Their public network license should be pulled.

This had nothing to do with free speech. And those calls? You wasted your time. They do not care. People say they will boycott. They do not do it. And they know it. Also, there is such a thing as principle. There is no defending what Hank said. It was ignorant and reprehensible. And made him look less than bright.

"People say they will boycott. They do not do it."

Well Sunshine "this people" does it. Also I am a Stockholder in several of the Companies who advertise on MNF and I've contacted them all. You would be surprised how responsive these companies can be. Google Dixie Chicks and Lipton Ice Tea.

"There is no defending what Hank said. It was ignorant and reprehensible. And made him look less than bright."

Actually those who look less than bright are those that can't understand how to comprehend the English language.

Hank didn't call Obama Hitler: " Williams said of Obama's outing on the links with House Speaker John Boehner: "It'd be like Hitler playing golf with (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu."

He was stating that they are polar opposites and a meeting is just window dressing.

I understood it immediately, why couldn't you? Was your knee too busy jerking?

But if you want to get into whether its appropriate to call Obama Hitler I ask you what would you call a public official who sets up a system to have citizens report other citizens who disagree with Obama;s policies?

Hitler and his minions organized the Reichstag fire to promote outrage and used such to grab power. Obama and his minions organized GUnwalker to promote support for more gun control laws. The difference between him and Adolph is his minions are incompetent boobs who botched the op.

Ever think that maybe just maybe the reason all this outrage over a supposed comparison of Obama to Hitler is that most folks are thinking along the same lines.

Hell even the extreme leftists in Congress want to impeach Obama over the latest Terrorist Killings because of the citizenship status of one of the dead terrorists.

I am as hardcore as they come on dealing with terrorists but this one gives me pause. An American President ordering the execution of an supposed American Citizen sends chills down my spine no matter how bad of a dude he was.

I've lived long enough now to mark the progress of the Overton Window so when I see such things I always ask myself how far along will we be in 10 years?

Will we have drones flying over the Heartland targeting Domestic Terrorists?

“Their public network license should be pulled.”

Whose “public network license” would you want the all powerful federal government to pull?

We all choose our own battles. When choosing mine, I will choose one with more substance and depth than this one. This is no criticism of your choice. Good luck.

Good for you...

Could you tell us what issue has more substance than allowing the leftist MSM to silence opposition THEY don't agree with on the public airwaves. Public airwaves that control the flow of information via broadcasting and more and more the Internet.

He who controls the flow of information controls the world!

Big Media wants to squash anyone who opposes Obama and they wish to do it publicly so everyone else will knuckle under and toe the line!

No one silenced anyone. No one said Hank jr could not say whatever he wants to say. But there are consequences and that is fair. He was way out of line. But this, again, is not about free speech.

"No one silenced anyone..."

When big media controls the flow of info and quashes dissent against liberal doctrine they most certainly do silence people...

If Hank Williams dissents against Obama in the middle of the forest and no one is there to hear it does he make a sound?

I hope you invested as many key strokes in defending the free speech rights of the Dixie Chicks as you have Hank Jr. I would hate for anyone to think me a hypocrite or accuse me of partisan rhetoric. My two pet peeves in political debate. Again, good luck. Obviously the sponsors were not bothered by the calls and email threatening boycotts nor was ESPN or they would not have permanently done away with Hank’s song. Again, no one said he did not have the right to say what he did. Just be prepared for a reaction to same. Thank you for the discussion. I do admire your passion. I mean that sincerely.

"I hope you invested as many key strokes in defending the free speech rights of the Dixie Chicks as you have Hank Jr..."

More Straw Man Arguments I see.

The DickieChicks went on foreign soil to make their comments which in my book is akin to treason especially when we were at war. I got no problem if someone wants to stand up on American soil and declare the President a doodie head or Hitler or anything else. However if you want to play good little American girls when you are on American soil and cozy up to the country music fans of America and then run to foreign shores and denounce the President then I got a problem with you. So I contacted Pepsico (I've had a DRIP with them for nearly 25 years.) which owns Lipton Tea who sponsored the Chix Tour and I told them the exact same thing I told you. Dissent all you want on American soil but when you twoface the Nation you should pay the consequences. BTW Pepsico sent me a very nice letter stating they were pulling support for the Chix tour AND a coupon for a free case of Lipton Ice Tea.

Bruce Springsteen dissed Bush every chance he got on stage but he did it on American soil and loud and proud. I don't agree with him but it is his right and I will defend his right to do such. But the Chix tried to play both sides of the coin and they lost.

Obviously the sponsors were not bothered by the calls and email threatening boycotts nor was ESPN or they would not have permanently done away with Hank’s song.

One problem there Sparky. Hank pulled the song from ESPN, THEN ESPN claimed they decided to stop playing it.

Sorry. I do not agree. Had the chicks said the same thing stateside, they would have had the same reaction. Having said that, I was so sorry they said what they did on foreign soil. But..nope...no strawman. Cop out and hypocritical.
Also, Hank jr is no spokesperson I want for the repub party. And remember, the repubs got kicked in the butt by Toby Keith when he had had enough when we tried to claim him as one of our own. He finally said Enough! I am not now, nor have I ever been, nor will I ever be, a Republican.
You and I are never going to agree on this. The least, and the most, we can do, is disagree while respecting a differing opinion. It does not mean I am right and you are wrong, nor the other way around. It simply means we disagree. And there is not a thing wrong with that.

And sorry, but Hank did not pull the song first. ESPN did and Hank tried to save face and claim he did it first. That is dishonest. And again, his analogy was historically so ignorant it is difficult to defend on that basis alone.

Well, you can believe ESPN and the Mouse all you want but I watched the story in real time. Hank pulled it first ESPN announced well afterward. Case Closed.

Further, you can try and claim hypocrisy on my part but it ain't flying sparky. The Chix went above and beyond dissent. Further I've been of exactly the same mind on such issues for decades. Dissent all you want its your right but you cross the line when you play both sides.

You are the one playing both sides hotshot...and I am a lady. Not a Sparky, thank you so much. You can believe it if you want but he was pulled and history Monday night and knew it. Now, case closed.

No the intro was pulled Monday Night before they had any actual feedback (Point one) then they went into review mode and AFTERWARD contacted Willams. (Point two) They were going to set up a statement and Mea Culpa and Hank told 'em NO DICE, no apology nothing, THEN ESPN asked if they could use the song with someone else singing it and He told em NADDA! And them Sparkette is da facts!
